If you will be applying for federal student loans, you must complete the 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is best to complete the FAFSA prior to April 15. Students can view other tips for filing their FAFSA here. Confirmed students who have completed their IU Grad CAS will be packaged with federal student loans and sent a financial aid notification via email. Questions can be directed to Paul Leopold, Director of Financial Aid, at iulawfa@iu.edu.
Before enrolling, you must provide the Office of Admissions with the following:
- An official undergraduate transcript confirming your degree conferral, to be submitted directly from your undergraduate institution to LSAC for inclusion in your CAS report (if the degree-conferred transcript is already part of your CAS report, there is no need to submit another). International JD students must provide an official transcript to the Office of International Services.
- Your official IU email address (instructions will be sent from IU once you have successfully submitted the IU Grad CAS). Send your IU email address to lawadmis@iu.edu. We will continue to use your primary email address until orientation in the fall. You should use the online status checker frequently to confirm we are using your primary email and current address. Please contact us at lawadmis@iu.edu if you would like us to update this information.
- Your new local address and move-in date. Email this information to lawadmis@iu.edu.
The Law School will assign your fall courses and send you instructions on how to register after mid-July. Do not register on your own until our office has informed you of the proper registration process with your prescribed courses. If you do, your registration will be deleted, and you will create further problems for yourself
Find the policy and form here. You must already have set up your IU e-mail username and account before you can access the form.
From the time you submitted your application until the start of class, you have a continuing obligation to notify the Office of Admissions of any character and fitness issues that occur or were inadvertently omitted on your application. Refer to the character and fitness section of your application for the appropriate questions. State bar authorities investigating you in the future will expect that anything they find in their security clearance checks or through other inquiries will have been reported on your application. When in doubt, disclose!
Indiana University complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act. All academics accommodations must be arranged by the university. If you believe you are eligible for an accommodation, contact Disability Services for Students at 812.855.7578 (TDD: 812.855.7654) before the start of classes.
- Fall classes will begin on Tuesday, August 19, with mandatory in-person orientation for all entering students (including international students) August 13-15. Check the 2025-2026 Academic Calendar for other important dates.
- We recommend that you arrive in Bloomington at least a week before orientation so that you have time to move in and get acclimated. You will have assignments for your first day of class, so it's best to be completely unpacked and settled (refrigerator and pantry stocked, utilities turned on, wireless network installed, etc.).
- If you are an international student, the IU Office of International Services (OIS) will contact you about their required orientation course. Visit the OIS website for international student orientation details. International students must complete this orientation as well as Law School orientation.
Many students try to live within a 15-20 minute walk from Baier Hall. You can find housing information in the Class of 2028 Facebook Group and in the VeryApt Housing Guide starting in January. Visit our Life in Bloomington page and the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) website for other housing options. Plan on securing housing as soon as possible. Options become fewer later into the spring and summer, particularly rentals within walking distance of the Law School. Be aware that many landlords start their leases in alignment with the IUB undergraduate fall semester first class day which is at least a week later than the first day of law school orientation. Make sure you have proper living accommodations lined up for before the start of mandatory orientation and the first class day of class. Note: if you do not have a Facebook account, please email lawadmis@iu.edu and we would be happy to send you the housing list.
During the spring and summer, the Law School will host in-person and virtual sessions for networking and informational purposes. These events are a great way to meet classmates, current students, and alumni. Watch for e-mail invitations and check the admitted student events webpage often.
Review our laptop computer requirement and learn about the technology available at IU.
Throughout the spring and summer, periodic emails and newsletters will be sent to you featuring information about registration, books, classes, and more. Please make sure you notify us with any email or address updates so that we always have your correct information on file.
Before school starts take the time to read books or watch movies that will inspire, challenge, and get you excited about your upcoming legal study. View a short, suggested reading and movie list faculty and staff have put together. Note: this is not an assignment, it is designed purely for your enjoyment and edification.
