How to apply
As an applicant to the Masters of Legal Studies program (MLS) you are required to submit the on-line application and all supporting documents mentioned below directly to the Indiana University Graduate Centralized Application Services.
Transcripts: All IUB applicants should upload transcripts in the ‘Academic History’ of the online application. Be sure to include a transcript for all institutions attended. If admitted, an official copy of your transcript will be required to start course work at the Law School.
Entrance Exam: Applicants applying to the MLS program are not required submit LSAT or GRE scores to be considered for admission.
Letters of Recommendation: The Law School requires two letters of recommendation to submitted directly through Indiana University Graduate Centralized Application Services. While strong preference is given to letters from faculty members who are familiar with your academic strength and can attest to your ability to undertake a rigorous course of study, we gladly welcome letters from employers or individuals who know you professionally.
Statement of Purpose: Applicants must submit a 2–3-page, double-spaced statement that explains one’s goals, academic and professional interests, and qualifications for pursuing the MLS degree. Statements should be clearly written, well-organized, and highlight the special strengths and experiences that you would bring to our Law School.
Resume: Upload your resume or CV to the online application as a PDF document.
Financial Aid: All admitted applicants are automatically considered for merit awards; no separate application is required. If you wish to subsidize your legal education using federal loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be found at studentaid.gov. The Federal School Code for Indiana University Bloomington is 001809.
Application Deadline: The deadline to apply for the fall is July 1st (June 1st for international applicants). We review MLS applications on a rolling basis.
