The student-run Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition gives students the opportunity to enhance skills in argument, legal representation, and jurisprudence by researching and writing an appellate brief and engaging in oral arguments. Indiana Law alumni and other legal practitioners and judges from around the country serve as competition judges.
Competition Dates:January 24, 2025 – April 11, 2025
Eligibility: This competition is intended for 2Ls but is also open to 3Ls who have not previously competed due to study abroad or joint-degree programs.
Learn more about Moot Court.Students try a case in teams of two against two representing either the plaintiff or the defendant. Each student will conduct an opening statement, a closing argument, a direct examination, and a cross-examination. The four top-scoring students in each category (16 total students) will compete in a single elimination playoff tournament, seeded according to first-round scores.
Competition dates: The Varsity Bracket (2L/3Ls) competition will take place late August - early September 2024.
The Novice Bracket (1Ls) will compete in early spring 2025.
Eligibility: Open to all 2L and 3L law students.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Competition will be available during the Fall semester. This competition will give you the opportunity to learn the basic features and skills of arbitration, which is an essential skill for lawyers planning to enter business and corporate practice.
Internal competitions are directed by the Law School's Advocacy Board.
