This seven-week summer program consists of two intensive courses:
- Course 1: Legal English and
- Course 2: Introduction to U.S. Law
The Legal English course, offered through the Intensive English Program, gives international lawyers and law students a unique, short-term opportunity to develop English language proficiency specifically for work and study in the legal profession. Faculty have law and language education expertise, with extensive E.S.L. teaching experience in the U.S. and abroad and training in legal studies at the Maurer School of Law.
The Introduction to U.S. Law course is designed to give international lawyers and law students an introduction to the American legal system and to the study of law in the United States. Principal topics include the common law system and associated legal and argumentative techniques, American federalism and constitutional law, the structure of the American court and legal system, and the role and regulation of lawyers in the American political system. Faculty are full-time professors at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law.
Eligible participants can choose to register for one or both courses. Please note: 1) each course has separate requirements, application, and payment process; 2) costs below do not include student fees, room & board, health insurance, and other miscellaneous expenses; and 3) Course 1 (six weeks) overlaps with Course 2 (two weeks) by one week, so the full program lasts just seven weeks: June 17-August 2.
