Monday, January 22
Washington, DC Semester Program (Fall 2018) Information Session
2L students interested in the DC Semester Program for fall 2018 (and 1L students interested in fall 2019) are invited to this information session. Current 3Ls who were enrolled in the program last semester have offered to share their experiences working in a variety of capacities. For fall 2018, students may have new opportunities at the Office of the Counsel to the Vice President of the United States and with the Counsel to Senator Todd Young. Lunch provided. Room 335, noon.
Black Tie 101
The Barristers' Ball is quickly approaching. Kick off your gown shopping and tuxedo fitting with a sartorial event hosted by the Law School's best dressed gentleman, Prof. Don Gjerdingen. He will share tips on dressing to impress and formal dining etiquette. All attendees will be entered in a drawing for a free Barristers' Ball ticket at the end of the session. Study Abroad Information Session
1Ls and 2Ls interested in spending a semester or year abroad in 2018-19 need to attend this informational meeting in advance of the study abroad application deadline of February 5. Returned study abroad students and current exchange students will be present to speak about their experiences and answer questions. Lunch will be provided. Room 121, noon.
Christian Legal Society Bible Study
Join us for our first Bible study of the semester. No preparation is necessary and all are welcome to attend. Room 215, noon.
JD/Education Minor Information Session
Interested in constitutional law? Torts? Civil rights? Employment law? Contracts? Education law offers a unique opportunity to learn about and practice a wide variety of legal issues, all while helping students and teachers. One of the Law School's best-kept secrets is its JD Minor in Education Policy. Attorneys with a background in education law are employed in a variety of settings, including private practice; governmental agencies; universities; and non-profit organizations. IP Practitioner-in-Residence: Karl Fink (Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery LLP)
Mr. Fink will be on campus today as part of our IP Practitioner-in-Residence program. In addition to attending IP classes, he will be giving a lunch talk at noon, and will be available for informal meetings with students throughout the day in the Faculty Study. Fink's practice includes all aspects of commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation, creation, management, enforcement and licensing, with particular emphasis on patent litigation. He has been a full-time first-chair trial lawyer since 1981, handling hundreds of lawsuits in state and federal courts across the country, both at trial and on appeal. Fink represents numerous public and privately held companies, ranging in size from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. Room 213, noon.
International Law Society General Body Meeting

Strategies for Surviving and Thriving in Law School
This presentation is designed to facilitate academic persistence and holistic growth through increased awareness and understanding of success strategies and personal development. Dr.
Kerrie Wilkins-Yel is an assistant professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. RSVP on CareerNet. The presentation will begin at noon and pizza will be available before then. Moot Court Room, noon.
Ambassador Call-out Meeting
As a student, no matter your year, you have the opportunity to play a significant role in recruiting efforts, and the Office of Admissions would appreciate your help. As a student ambassador, you will meet with prospective students, provide them a tour of the Law School, and take them to a class. Being a student ambassador is a commitment of a few hours over the course of each semester. Your efforts help show prospective students the depth and breadth of the students, the faculty, and the programs here at the law school. The informational meeting will cover the requirements for being a student ambassador and other information you will need to know. Room 120, noon.

Join panelists Philippa Guthrie, '91, from the City of Bloomington Legal Department, and Michael Nossett, '14, general counsel for the Office of the Indiana Governor, for this Career Choices panel on government roles. Faegre Baker Daniels 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembrance Event
Judge Robert L. Wilkins has graciously offered to remain after the Faegre Baker Daniels Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembrance Event to facilitate a roundtable with the law students in attendance. This extra part of the program, a rare opportunity to talk to a judge on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, will commence immediately following the program and won't go past 3:30 p.m. RSVP on CareerNet.

Bar Support: MBE Diagnostic Test
What is the MBE? What will it test? What should I expect when I take the bar exam? What are the skills that are tested on the bar? Come find out by taking and reviewing a diagnostic test. You will have the opportunity to take the test online or in a simulated classroom arrangement. Results are dispersed when you attend the diagnostic follow-up session on Saturday, February 10. On Jan. 5 Prof. Rob Fischman led a panel discussion of empirical research in environmental law at the Association of American Law Schools annual meeting. His analysis of the topic can be found in the forthcoming article, "Empirical Environmental Law Scholarship."
Prof. Steve Sanders wrote an invited commentary for Fortune.com about a new Trump administration policy that would allow health care employees to object on religious grounds to providing treatment to transgender persons.

Interested in First Amendment and Media Law?
The ABA Forum on Communications Law Annual Conference is being held in Napa Valley from March 1-3. An optional part of the conference is a Media Advocacy Workshop for new lawyers and law students. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to gain practical skills and receive feedback from the world's most experienced media attorneys. Keeping the Momentum: Maurer Gives Back
One year ago, an estimated 4.5 million people participated in the 2017 Women's March, including many of our own students. The momentum from that day spanned the whole year: There was a surge in individuals running for office, getting involved in their communities, and speaking up about injustices. In celebration of the incredible things done this past year, the Feminist Law Forum is collecting items for the Shalom Center and Middle Way House during lunch Monday through Friday. Strongly needed items are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razors, socks, winter hats, gloves, jackets, sweatpants, jeans, sleeping bags, etc. Donations made via cash, check, or Venmo are encouraged. Undergrad Mock Trial Seeks Volunteers
The Undergraduate Mock Trial is looking for law students to volunteer for the sixth annual Hoosier Hoedown. Rounds will take place on Saturday, January 27th and Sunday, January 28th. CSO InterviewPalooza Returns Friday Feb. 2
Students will have the chance to work with faculty to practice in-person interviews and informational interviews by phone. You will receive feedback from the interviewer immediately after the interview. Fifty spots are available and this is open to all law students. Space permitting, students can do both this and in-person interviews. RSVP under the events tab on CareerNet. Informational interviewing: Students will learn about a practice area in the legal profession and get to present themselves on the phone. The set-up presumes that these are not cold calls, but that the attorney has already agreed to talk with you. The call will take approximately 5-10 minutes. In-person interviewing: Interviews will take approximately 20-25 minutes and will occur throughout the law school. Students are strongly encouraged to come in formal interview clothes. Where possible, we will match students with interviewers in their practice area of interest. Please bring your resume, which must be updated on Symplicity. The goal is to get you comfortable answering interview questions and talking about yourself.
30th Annual Rapheal M. Prevot Jr. Barristers' Ball
Join BLSA for a night of dinner and dancing at our signature event of the year. Barristers' Ball is a celebration of our distinguished legal community and enduring commitment to diversity and unity. This year's theme is "An Evening at the Savoy," a tribute to the rich legacy of the Harlem Renaissance that will continue to inspire ingenuity for endless generations. Be sure to dress to impress! Ticket sales begin January 29th at noon and tickets are limited. The cost to attend is $60.

You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.
ILA Submissions
Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) by emailing (lawrooms@indiana.edu). If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 855-0156). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
