This Week in the Law School
With the Indiana Fightin' Hoosiers opening the football season this Thursday, and with ESPN's College GameDay program on hand to witness our historic upset of The Ohio State University, we thought we'd recommend a few signs you can hold up in the background if you're so inclined:

3rd Annual Jerome Hall Law Library Welcome Week
Donuts, coffee, and library swag can only mean one thing: Jerome Hall Law Library welcome week is back! Stop by the welcome week table in the library lobby for a chance to win a library travel mug and to pick up other library swag. Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Baseball Meets the Law
As part of the Jerome Hall Law Library's welcome week activities, the library will be hosting a lecture by retired law librarians Ed Edmonds and Frank Houdek. Their book, Baseball Meets the Law: A Chronology of Decisions, Statutes and other Legal Events, was recently published by McFarland Publishing. Moot Court Room, noon.
Labor and Employment Panel of Stars
Learn from an impressive panel of IU Alumni who practice labor and employment law. The panel consists of the following alumni: Tony Prather, '83 (Barnes & Thornburg, partner), Stephen Due, '02 (OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc., vice president and associate general counsel), and Heather Wilson, '97 (Frost Brown Todd). SBA 1L rep campaigning and voting
The Student Bar Association is happy to announce that official campaigning for the 1L representative will commence this morning at 8 a.m. and end at 11:59 a.m. Wednesday when voting begins. Voting will then take place from noon to 3pm at the SBA table in the main entrance. Only 1Ls may vote in this election, and each student may only vote once for up to three candidates. All votes must be cast in person during the time frame indicated above. The top three candidates will be chosen as SBA representatives for the 1L class. Please remember, only students who were nominated before Friday, August 25th are eligible candidates. All nominees should have received an email announcing their nomination. Candidates, please be aware of the relevant rules and policy for campaigning. Violation of any campaign policy is grounds for disqualification. Good luck to all candidates!

IP Practitioner-In-Residence: Emily Pence
Emily Pence, '13 (Mayer Brown) will be on campus today as part of the Center for Intellectual Property's IP Practitioner-in-Residence program. In addition to attending IP classes, Ms. Pence will be giving a lunch talk at noon in Rm 213, and will be available for informal meetings with students throughout the day in Rm 340.
Pro Bono Call-out Meeting
Interested in pro bono opportunities at Indiana Law? Come to the joint call-out meeting where leaders from each group on campus will describe the opportunities that students have to make an impact on the Bloomington community. Lunch will be served. Moot Court Room, noon.
Ambassador Call-out Meeting
Volunteer in the Office of Admissions by becoming a student ambassador. As an Indiana Law JD student, you have the opportunity to play a significant role in recruiting efforts, and the Office of Admissions would appreciate your help. As a student ambassador, you will meet with prospective students, provide them a tour of the law school, and bring them to class. Being a student ambassador is a commitment of a few hours over the course of each semester. Your efforts help show prospective students the depth and breadth of the students, the faculty, and the programs here at Indiana Law. The opportunity is open to all JD students. Room 120, noon.

Join us for a panel discussion with IU Maurer School of Law alums working in the field of intellectual property. 2Ls and 3Ls: Judicial Clerkship Workshop
Professors Sophia Goodman and Inge Van der Cruysse, along with Sarah Portwood, will give you the nuts and bolts on why a judicial clerkship with a judge or court after law school is a great way to launch your career, and when (now!) and how to start your application process. We will also give you an overview of the assistance and resources the judicial clerkship program offers applicants. American Constitution Society Call-out Meeting
Join the American Constitution Society for a call-out meeting to learn more about the group's plans to bring progressive issues to the forefront at Indiana Law this year through speakers, panels, and events. Elections for a 1L representative will also be held. Those interested should prepare a short statement on their qualifications, including any past experience working to advance progressive causes. Environmental Law Society Call-out Meeting
Calling all those interested in environmental law! The Grateful Grad: Welcome Back Party
The SBA will be hosting the annual welcome back party. This year the party is 70s themed and will be headlined by a Hyryder, a Grateful Dead tribute band. Pizza will be provided. Faculty and Staff News
Prof. Rob Fischman spent two days last week teaching U.S. Fish & Wildlife officers who attended the Advanced Refuge Academy at the National Conservation Training Center. Professor Fischman helps teach parts of the academy concerning public land management and wildlife conservation law. These federal officials are responsible for managing the 570 million-acre national wildlife refuge system. Engaging directly with the people whose feet fill the boots on the ground helps Prof. Fischman identify new research projects and challenge his understanding of how law influences actual conservation activities.

Cybersecurity RA Opportunity
Prof. Scott Shackelford, chair of IU's cybersecurity program, is looking for a research assistant to help with a forthcoming book for Cambridge University Press, Cyber War and Peace: Governing New Frontiers in the Information Age. Please note that this opportunity will extend through final manuscript submission in fall 2018.
Basic Mediation and Restorative Justice Training
The Community Justice and Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 40-hour training program for community members interested in learning about conflict resolution, mediation, and restorative justice. Participants will enhance their interpersonal skills in communication and listening, problem solving, and negotiation, and they will increase their understanding of restorative justice philosophy and methods, the sources of conflict, and the processes leading to constructive conflict resolution. The training should benefit any community member concerned with managing conflict and its resolution. The training provides the background and skills necessary to work as a community mediator and restorative justice practitioner and qualifies participants to volunteer in CJAM's programs. The fall training will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. over five weekend days, September 9-10, 16-17, and 23 at the Law School. The training will be led by senior mediators and restorative justice practitioners. Tuition is $300, or $260 if received by Aug. 28. Scholarships are available. An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.

Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved.
