This Week in the Law School
Two of the nation's premier authorities will visit Wednesday for a panel on transgender rights, including counsel to a transgender boy whose case will be argued before the U.S. Supreme Court this spring. A scholar from the Cato Institute will be here Thursday to explore alternatives to the Affordable Care Act. IJLSE hosts its annual spring symposium Friday; come learn about access to justice from scholars around the country. Finally, we host Diversity Law Day on Saturday. Please welcome our high school and undergraduate visitors if you're in the building.

Tuesday, February 14
BLSA General Body Meeting
The Black Law Students Association will use this meeting to put together school supply kits for Bloomington Public Schools using donated materials. We will also take photos for the Black Lawyers Matter video, so if you purchased a BLM t-shirt last semester, today would be a great day to wear it. If you would like to be in the BLM video, please wear your BLM t-shirt or another form of a black shirt. Meeting is for BLSA members only. Room 124, noon.

Legislative History Research Workshop
Come to the second research workshop of the semester! Today's topic will be on compiling legislative history. Learn about the different documents that you may encounter and how to find them online. Please feel free to bring your lunch. Please register in advance to attend. Room 222, noon.
Dignity, Law, and Transgender Lives
Two of the nation's most prominent authorities will consider the present and future of transgender equality - the political and legal questions being debated in legislatures, courts, and the public square - and whether and how transgender persons will achieve the promise of equal human dignity for their identities and lives. Featured speakers will be Joshua Block, senior staff attorney with the ACLU LGBT & HIV Project and counsel to Gavin Grimm, a transgender boy whose case against his school district will be heard this spring by the U.S. Supreme Court, and Jody Herman, scholar of public policy with The Williams Institute, UCLA Law School. The program will be moderated by Prof. Steve Sanders. Moot Court Room, 4 p.m.

Join panelists Adam Mueller, '05, of Indiana Legal Services and Gavin Rose, '06, of the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana as they discuss careers centered around advocacy. Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality Spring Symposium
The Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality (IJLSE), the Center for Law, Society and Culture; and the Milt and Judi Stewart Center on the Global Legal Profession will hold this year's IJLSE spring symposium: "Accessing Justice: The Interplay of Design Thinking, Legal Education, and Technology." This panel-style discussion will feature three panels meant to address a wide host of questions: What is the current state of A2J in Indiana? What role do law schools play in addressing unmet A2J needs? How can design, technology, and service learning be used to advance access to justice? Moot Court Room, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Replace ObamaCare: With What?
Michael Cannon from the Cato Institute, a public policy think tank in Washington D.C., will be speaking about policy proposals to replace the healthcare law. Prof. David Gamage will provide a response to the speech. Room 122, noon.

Diversity Law Day
Diversity Law Day is an opportunity for high school and college students who may not have been exposed to law school or the legal profession to get an inside look at what it takes to be a lawyer. Students will be in Baier Hall throughout the day.
Faculty News
Prof. Dan Cole was an invited presenter at the Fourth Santa Fe Conference on Global & Regional Climate Change, an event organized every five years by the Los Alamos National Laboratories. He was the only non-climate scientist invited to present at the conference. His presentation related to ongoing research on polycentric approaches to climate change law and policy.

Become an RA for Prof. Buxbaum
Prof. Hannah Buxbaum is seeking to hire a research assistant to work on a project involving forum-selection clauses. (It's more interesting than it sounds.) Candidates must have excellent research and writing skills, and, ideally, will have taken Advanced Civil Procedure. This is a paid position. Please submit a resume, transcript, and brief statement of interest to her assistant, Mary Beth Boyer (meboyer@indiana.edu). Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
Smith-Doheny Legal Ethics Writing Competition
The Smith-Doheny Legal Ethics writing competition sponsored by the Notre Dame Law School is now accepting submissions. The best submission on any legal ethics topic will win a $2,500 prize. The submission deadline is Friday, April 28, 2017. The announcement is posted on the Student Affairs bulletin board.
Westlaw "Practice Ready" Tools
Would you like a free $10 Starbucks gift card and the joint benefit of learning a new feature on Westlaw? Westlaw student representatives will be showing students the new "Practice Ready" tools that will enhance your legal research and practical skills as you prepare to enter the legal field. Student Reps, Morgan D'Arcy and Joe Harrison will be in the lobby seating area of the law library on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week during the lunch hour. Come find them to learn some helpful skills and to claim your free gift card. How to Schedule an Event
An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.
ILA Submissions
Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) by emailing (lawrooms@indiana.edu). If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 855-0156). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
