This Week in the Law School
The Women's Law Caucus is hosting three of our exceptional faculty members Tuesday for a discussion on their experiences as women in the legal field.
Dean Parrish will provide updates on the school, field your questions, listen to your concerns, and discuss anything else you wish at the spring semester town hall meeting. Let's try to keep it at least slightly more civilized than the last GOP debate.
And if sports is your thing, there are two great opportunities to participate: A tremendous panel will be here today to talk about careers in sports law. And the president of the NCAA, Mark Emmert, will be here on Thursday evening for a discussion with IU Vice President and Athletic Director Fred Glass.

BLSA Black History Month Reflection: President Barack Obama
Please join BLSA as we discuss President Barack Obama's impact during his term in office. Professors Jeannine Bell, Kevin Brown, Dawn Johnsen, and Steve Sanders will discuss the most influential moments of President Obama's administration. Lunch will be provided. Room 125, noon.
Sports Law in Indy and Beyond
Join us for a panel discussion about careers in sports law. Our panelists are attorneys working in Indianapolis and Bloomington or with roots in the Hoosier State, and they have practiced in a wide variety of contexts: antitrust, collegiate athletics, professional sports, general counsel for national governing bodies, and more. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions following the guided discussion with this diverse group. Panelists include: Jayma Meyer (counsel, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett; Visiting Scholar, Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs); James Nussbaum (assistant general counsel, Indiana University); Jen Phelps (general counsel, USA Football); Patrick Reilly (associate, products liability and sports law, Faegre Baker Daniels); and Norm Wain (general counsel, USA Track & Field). This is an outreach event sponsored by Sports Circle Indy, Sports Lawyers Association, and the Maurer Sports and Entertainment Law Society. Academic Planning Sessions
Dean Catherine Matthews, Ms. Alexis Lanham, and Ms. Liz Ferrufino will hold several academic planning sessions this week, today through Friday. The purpose of these sessions is to provide information about graduation requirements, bar preparation coverage, and course registration procedures to help you plan your course schedules for your remaining semesters. Although attendance at any one of these sessions is optional, you must attend one in order to schedule an individual follow-up advising appointment with one of us. This foundational information will be most immediately helpful for you as you plan your fall class schedule; registration for 1Ls will be in early April. Town Hall with Dean Parrish
All Maurer students, faculty, and staff are invited to this semester's Town Hall meeting with Dean Austen Parrish. Come hear the dean's "State of the School" address and learn more about the strategic initiatives moving us forward into a new year. The town hall will be in its usual format, with the dean first providing a short address to the students followed by a question and answer session for you to voice any concerns. Hot Topics Discussion One: Black Lives Matter, Policing
Indiana University Provost and Executive Vice President Lauren K. Robel invite you to take part in a campus conversation on race. Prof. Kevin Brown, the Richard S. Melvin Professor of Law, and Sandra Shapshay, director of the Political and Civic Engagement Program in the College and associate professor of philosophy, will lead a discussion on Black Lives Matter and policing. An initial panel discussion will be followed by several smaller break-out sessions. Moot Court Room, 6 p.m.

Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies Annual Symposium
The Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies will be holding its annual Symposium March 3-4 in the Faculty Conference Room (Room 335). The theme this year is "The Transnational Executive." International scholars, social scientists, and attorneys will be presenting their proposed papers to be published in a future volume of the Journal. The Future of College Sports: A Conversation with NCAA President Mark Emmert and IU AD Fred Glass
The School of Public and Environmental Affairs' Law and Public Policy Program is pleased to present a conversation with Mark Emmert, president of the NCAA, and Fred Glass, IU athletic director. The event will be moderated by IU visiting scholar Jayma Meyer. The conversation will cover a variety of topics facing collegiate sports including: amateurism, compensation, concussions, time demands, academic eligibility, and commercialization. Environmental Law Moot Court Team Makes Quarterfinals at Pace
Congratulations to Megan Binder, Whitney Lynch, and Annie Xie, Indiana Law's Environmental Law Moot Court Team. In competition at Pace Law School, the team advanced to the quarterfinals, only the third time a Maurer team has placed that high. Kudos especially to Megan Binder, designated as best oralist in one of the preliminary rounds.
Applications Now Being Accepted for IP Moot Court
All rising 2Ls and 3Ls are invited to apply to participate on one of the law school's IP Moot Court competition teams. Students who are selected earn credits for their participation and are supervised by faculty. The Center for Intellectual Property Research covers reasonable expenses associated with participation. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, March 7. Applications should be submitted to Allison Hess (allhess@indiana.edu). Your application must include the following: A resume and law school transcript (an unofficial transcript will suffice); a one-paragraph statement explaining your interest in participating; a short sample of your writing; and an indication of which competition or competitions interest you.
Maurer Madness Sign-ups
It's that time of year again: Maurer Madness, the Law School's annual basketball tournament hosted by the Latino Law Student Association and Sports and Entertainment Law Society, is coming up this Saturday. Grab 10 of your best ballers to form a team for the 5-on-5 games. The tournament is open to all IU students, but each team must have at least one law student. Player fees include $10 and two canned food items that will be donated to charity. SELS will be tabling Monday through Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m., so be sure to sign up if you are interested in competing.

Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) by emailing (lawrooms@indiana.edu).
