This Week in the Law School
Congratulations to our 2015 Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition champions, Marie Forney and Christopher Roberts. All four finalists (including Eric Leist and Sarah Thompson) earned high praise from our distinguished panel of jurists. Special thanks to the Sherman Minton Advocacy Board and the countless volunteer judges for their hard work in making this year's event a success.
Dean Parrish will host students for coffee and cookies on Tuesday. No word on whether we'll have holiday-themed cups. APALSA hosts Bollywood Night on Thursday, with plenty of Indian food and dance. Thinking about skipping this fun event? Naan-sense. Lots of ExamSoft review sessions this week. Hey, why do they call it ExamSoft when exams are hard? (Rimshot). Finally Ellie Bernstein will lead a yoga session on Friday in the Faculty Lounge. Anyone who has taken a class with Ellie knows that she makes Gumby look rigid. Stretch beforehand.
ILA wishes you the happiest of Thanksgivings. Just remember: You've earned the privilege to go to one of the best law schools on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. You help make this place the special school it is, and for that, we are thankful. Now that you're all emotional, why not do some good? Participate in the SBA's Thanksgiving dinner drive and the Hoosier Hills food donation box. There is tremendous need, and even a small donation can go a long way.
Finally, the Indiana Law community lost a true institution over the weekend with the sudden passing of Prof. Doug Boshkoff. He served as dean of the Law School in the early 1970s, and though he retired in 1996, he continued teaching for nearly two more decades. He was a wonderful colleague, teacher, and friend, and our thoughts are with Prof. Boshkoff's family and friends.

Can You Sign Your Rights Away? How Forced Arbitration Clauses Restrict Access to the Courts
The American Constitution Society and the Center for Law, Society, and Culture are co-sponsoring this event to draw attention to a real and quickly growing problem. The event will include the screening of a 20-minute documentary produced by Alliance for Justice, Lost in the Fine Print. The screening will be followed by a panel of professors discussing the effects of such clauses on labor law, employment discrimination law, and the law of business and human rights. Recently, the New York Times has reported on this phenomenon in "Beware the Fine Print," a series of articles describing the manifestations and effects of such forced arbitration contract clauses. Coffee with Dean Austen Parrish

Please join the Feminist Law Forum for our conscious-raising event this semester, a discussion forum entitled "Let's Talk: Intersections in Life and the Law." This event is being co-hosted by other organizations including Federalist Society, LSRJ, BLSA, Advocates for Life, and LLSA, among many others. SELS Guest Speaker: NCAA Deputy GC Naima Stevenson Starks
Please join the Sports and Entertainment Law Society to hear Naima Stevenson Starks speak about her role as deputy general counsel for the NCAA. She will talk about her background, current legal issues in intercollegiate athletics, and give advice to those interested in sports law. Added perk: her husband, Stephen Starks, deputy general counsel at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, will be joining her. Infrastructure Development in India: Challenges & Opportunities for Good Governance, Political Stability and the Rule of Law
The Center on the Global Legal Profession is pleased to present Deepender Hooda, the youngest member to ever serve in the Indiana parliament, and who is currently serving his second term as a member of the Congress Party from Rohtak, Haryana. During his tenure in parliament, Mr. Hooda has worked on prominent committees such as finance and external affairs. He is widely regarded as an advocate for rural development, 21st-century workforce development, the Indian economy, and education. Mr. Hooda will be serving as Poling Chair at the Kelley School of Business over the course of the next year. Seats are limited. Lunch will be provided. RSVP via Indiana Law CareerNet. Room 335, noon.

Social Justice Series: From Driving While Black to Mass Incarceration
Access to Justice and PILF, with support from the ACS and IJLSE, are working together to put on a social justice series. Our second event will feature a discussion entitled "From Driving While Black to Mass Incarceration." From the events in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Gardner and Sandra Bland, to recent events at the University of Missouri, implicit bias, racial injustice, and mass incarceration are important, interconnected topics that are relevant to all Indiana Law students. We hope you come out and share your opinion/insight/passion/personal experience to help contribute to the conversation. Representatives from the Inmate Legal Assistance Project will give a brief talk, which will be followed by a space for open dialogue. Boxcar Books (408 E. Sixth Street), 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Bollywood Night
If you have a sudden craving for delicious Indian food but the buffets around town just aren't doing it for you, come out to APALSA's annual Bollywood Night for a rocking good time and a three-course Indian meal prepared for you by connoisseurs of Indian cuisine. There will be music, there will be dancing, and best of all, there will be an opportunity for you to join in and experience the vibrant culture of India's film scene. Everyone is invited and tickets are only $5 for APALSA members and $10 for everyone else, being sold all week during lunch and at the door. The Graduate Legal Studies Colloquium
The Graduate Legal Studies Colloquium is a weekly meeting for graduate students to discuss common academic concerns and research interests. This Friday, SJD candidates Ms. Kalyani Unkule and Mr. Kai-Chih Chang will present their dissertation research. Ms. Unkule will present "International Relations and International Law: Meeting Points and Unanswered Questions," while Mr. Chang will discuss "The ICJ Judges: What do their Voting Patterns Reveal?" Faculty News
Prof. Leandra Lederman presented her article draft entitled "The IRS Crisis" at a faculty workshop at Seattle Law School on October 26 and at the University of Virginia Invitational Tax Conference on November 6. She also recently published an essay, co-authored with Joseph S. Dugan (J.D. '15), in a Pepperdine Law Review online symposium on King v. Burwell. The essay is entitled "King v. Burwell: What Does It Portend For Chevron's Domain?" Prof. Lederman also presented her article draft now entitled "Why Not to Reform the IRS" at a faculty work-in-progress at the University of Chicago Law School on November 12. This article is for a symposium on "Reforming the IRS" scheduled to be published in 2016 in the Columbia Journal of Tax Law.
Prof. Rob Fischman and his collaborator, J.B. Ruhl, of Vanderbilt, have published a new article on adaptive management, which is an environmental management technique designed to reduce uncertainty over time through "learning by doing." You can access the publication on an IU network.
Staff News
Jennifer Davis and Mara Bernstein from the Office of Admissions have accepted positions with the Department of Sociology and the Indiana University Foundation, respectively. Lin Nicholson, faculty secretary, has resigned. Searches are under way to fill vacancies, as is a national search for a new assistant dean of career services in light of Dean Kenny Tatum's departure on November 30. Please wish all of these colleagues well in their new endeavors.

SBA Thanksgiving Dinner Fundraiser
The season of giving is upon us, and SBA is putting on its annual Talk Turkey to Me fundraiser. For each dollar donated, the student, faculty, or staff member will be given a "turkey" to decorate. All of the funds raised go to help low-income families put Thanksgiving dinner on the table. This year the donations will be going to families with children who attend Fairview Elementary School. Please stop by the SBA table before November 19 to donate. We will be tabling each lunch hour in the main lobby. If you have any questions please contact Drew Ambrose (dcambrose@gmail.com).
Food Drive for Hoosier Hills Food Bank
The Office of Student Affairs will be sponsoring a food drive at the Law School beginning November 16 and concluding November 20. All food collected will be donated to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, which collects, stores, and distributes food to nonprofit agencies that feed the hungry in Monroe and surrounding counties. Bins will be placed in the Office of Student Affairs on the ground floor; outside the Jerome Hall Law Library entrance on the first floor; and in the staff lounge on the second floor. Please donate non-perishable food items as generously as possible. The Food Bank has a particular need for protein items such as peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, canned soup, and canned or bagged beans. Transactional Drafting Competition Sign-ups Begin Today
The Business & Law Society is officially starting the sign-up process for next semester's internal Transactional Drafting Competition. Sign-ups begin today and last until November 18. To sign up, please send an email to James Abney (jhabney@indiana.edu) with your name, class, and preferred email address. Please put "Transactional Drafting Competition Sign-Up" in the subject line. Do not include your intended partner(s). We will allow for partner selection once we know how many students plan to participate. The competition is open to 2Ls and 3Ls only.

A search is under way for Bridget's successor, and Mary and her team are well-equipped to handle your requests in the interim.

An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.

Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website.
