This Week in the Law School
Three of our fantastic students have been featured in recent university-wide publications for their contributions to the community. Shannon Phillips, '16, is helping fellow veterans over at our newly established Veterans Disability Law Clinic. Other students, like Marcus Phelps and Von Lovan, '17, are wearing bow ties on Tuesdays and setting the trend for their fellow students to do so, in the name of camaraderie (and style).
With exams fast approaching, ILA thinks necks aren't the only places you'll find knots in the coming weeks. If you've got butterflies (or Windsors) in your stomach, a meditation expert will be here Wednesday to lead you through a few relaxation exercises. To further help you prepare, we'll host a session Tuesday on how to successfully take a law school exam. (Spoiler alert: Read the questions, then write the correct answers.)
The finals of the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition take place Friday, and while we won't know who the finalists are until Wednesday — our money is on a few of the semifinalists — ILA can exclusively reveal who your judges will be for the final round. This stellar lineup of judges will also take time on Friday afternoon to talk to students. See Friday's announcements for this breaking news.

IU Health and Wellness Talk: Mindfulness
As part of the Indiana Law Wellness Program, we will host a mindfulness meditation presentation. Bringing your attention to present time and inner/outer sensory experience helps rally one's resources, which aids awareness and clarity for the topic at hand. Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition Finals
After months of exciting competition among more than 135 competitors, the Finals of the 2015 Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition will be held Friday, November 13, at 5:00 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. This year's case raises questions regarding (1) how to apply traditional Fourth Amendment search doctrines to the new digital world of "cloud" computing and online data storage, and (2) how much leeway courts have in interpreting the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, and in particular whether a defendant may be punished for "distributing" illicit images when he wasn't aware that his file-sharing program was making those images publicly available. Oral arguments will take place as if it were a full argument before the Supreme Court of the United States. These prominent jurists and legal professionals will judge the Finals:
- Hon. Nina Pillard, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit
- Hon. Robert Rucker, Indiana Supreme Court
- Hon. James Bredar, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland
- Hon. Sara Ellis, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
- Mr. Bryan Babb '00, Bose McKinney & Evans LLP
The Moot Court Room doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the program begins at 5 p.m. Overflow seating with a live stream will be broadcast in Room 121. A reception for the entire Law School community will follow the program at about 7 p.m. in the first-floor lobby. Please join us to cheer on this year's four finalists and all the students who have competed this year.
