OCPD Student Tip
Make sure your professional materials are in order. Talk to an OCPD advisor about updating or changing your resume to convey a relevant skillset to the individuals with which you would like to meet.
- Identify the individuals that you would like to meet. Use the Symplicity networking tab to make connections or contact the OCPD to gain assistance finding alumni in specific geographic locations.
- Once you have identified those contacts begin the outreach and be (politely) persistent. You may have to send out several emails before you get the desired response.
- Keep an eye on Symplicity announcements and be on the lookout for receptions at law firms in your area of interest or other events where students are invited to meet with attorneys.

Announcements
Happy Holidays from the Protective Order Project!
POP is now selling holiday ornaments. The ornaments will be on sale every day at lunch starting until the end of classes on Friday, December 6th. The ornaments cost $8 each or two for $15. They serve as great gifts for family members (because let's be honest, we don't have time to shop), and they're small for those of you traveling long distances!
We will be accepting both cash and checks made out to Protective Order Project. We already have the ornaments in stock, so they will be available the day you buy them. Please feel free to contact Simone Sprague at simsprag@indiana.edu should you have any questions.
WLC Dine and Donate
The Women's Law Caucus will be hosting a Dine and Donate at Bloomington Sandwich Company (118 E. Kirkwood, by Buskirk-Chumley), Tuesday, December 3, 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. to raise money for our auction. The auction proceeds benefit POP and Middle Way House. Just make sure you say "Maurer School of Law Women's Law Caucus Auction" when you stop by for lunch (and dinner!) or when you order food for your organization! Check out their menu and support a good cause! www.bloomingtonsandwich.com/menu.pdf.
CLEAR Health Information Event
Prof. Fred Cate invites the community to a unique CLE event (3 hours ethics credit available pending), titled "Cybersecurity in Health Care Addressing Ethical Use and Protection of Sensitive Health Information." The event will be held at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis on December 12, 2013, 8:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. To register and see full details, visit clearhealthinfo.iu.edu/cle.
The course is presented by Indiana University's Center for Law, Ethics, and Applied Research in Health Information (CLEAR), and is sponsored by the IU Maurer School of Law. This third annual CLEAR CLE event builds on the rapid expansion of challenges and opportunities around the productive use of health information in the face of new cyberthreats, particularly stemming from the innovation of new medical devices. Please direct questions to Drew Simshaw, '12, at 812-856-1497 or dsimshaw@indiana.edu.
Faculty News
Professor Dan Cole gave a special invited lecture on Nov. 21 at the Faculty of Law of Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) in Santiago, Chile. His presentation of "Property 2.0: Toward a Less 'Naïve' Theory of Property Rights and Duties," was preceded by introductory comments by UDP Rector Carlos Peña, and followed by comments by Professor Dominique Hervé, Director of the Program of Environmental Law and Policy, and two interdisciplinary panel discussions focusing on Property issues in Chile.
Jerome Hall Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Howard Pashman was invited to participate in a workshop on October 4 titled "Defining the Economy in Political Crisis: Revolution, Rupture, and the Law" at Harvard's Center for History and Economics. He was on a panel that examined property confiscation during many different periods of upheaval, from the American Revolution to the end of the Nazi occupation of Belorussia. The paper grew out of a recent article titled "The People's Property Law: A Step Toward Building a New Legal Order in Revolutionary New York," which appeared in the August 2013 issue of Law and History Review.
On November 18, 2013, Professor Leandra Lederman presented her paper entitled "(Un)appealing Deference to the Tax Court" in the Legal Scholarship Workshop at the University of Chicago School of Law.
