OCPD Student Tip: 3Ls: State Court Clerkships Are Still Available
While federal court clerkship recruiting for 2014 may be coming to a close, there are still many state court clerkships available. Some state Supreme Court judges accept applications from second-year law students, but most state courts hire law clerks during the 3rd year of law school. For instance, over half of all clerkships secured by the class of 2013 were state court clerkships obtained during the 3rd year of law school and/or following graduation. We encourage you to explore these clerkship opportunities as a valuable and rewarding career path option.
If you have any questions about state court clerkship resources or the state court clerkship process, please contact David Main (dmmain@indiana.edu) or Kim Bunge (kbunge@indiana.edu). We look forward to working with you.

Indiana Law Student Appears before Seventh Circuit
On September 27, 3L Parag Bhayani argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago in United States v. McMillan. The case raises, among other issues, an important question of first impression in this Circuit about the interpretation of a federal criminal statute. The appeal, in which Prof. Lahn was appointed by the Court to represent the defendant under the Criminal Justice Act, involved eight months of work by Parag, assisted by 2Ls Margot Newman and Alyssa-Degner Lopez and Andrew Murphy '13. Parag's argument may be heard by typing in case number 12-1348 here: http://media.ca7.uscourts.gov/oralArguments/oar.jsp
