Family and friends are invited to watch the ceremony live on the Law School's YouTube channel. To join the event, follow this link. (The link will be accessible once the event begins.) A live transcript will be enabled for hearing-impaired guests. Following the ceremony, faculty members will host individual virtual receptions available for students to attend at their leisure.
IU commencement ceremony
Law School graduates are invited to an in-person outdoor ceremony on Friday, May 7. This ceremony will be for graduates only (no guests) and will include students from IU’s various graduate and professional programs. Family and friends will not be invited to attend this ceremony.
JD and PhD students will walk across the stage and be hooded by a Maurer faculty member. Pre-event COVID-19 testing and health and safety protocols will be required. More details about this event can be found here, and you must reserve a ticket no later than April 30:
- JD and SJD students should select Doctoral. LLM students should select Masters.
- Select the arrival time that works for you—arrivals will be staggered. If you want to sit with friends, be sure to select the same arrival time and show up together, as seating will be general admission upon arrival.
- If you see an option to invite a faculty advisor as a hooder, please ignore it. The Law School will be coordinating faculty hooders for our students.
Regalia
Graduates contact Herff Jones to order graduation regalia (gown, hood, tam and tassel). Detailed ordering instructions can be found here. The regalia will be shipped directly to you and will come with a prepaid return shipping label so you can return the gown and hood (you keep the tam and tassel). The deadline to order is April 5, after which there is a surcharge of $75.
Certificates and other graduation-related items
Graduates are invited to schedule an appointment to visit Baier Hall between 11 am and 5 pm on Friday, May 7. Those with appointments will be able to pick up a graduation bag containing a few small gifts from the Law School, any certificates or plaques you earned, and a copy of the Class of 2021 composite photo. A professional photographer and a selfie station will be there so you can take plenty of pictures while wearing your regalia.
Students who are not attending the IU ceremony at Memorial Stadium on the same day are encouraged to schedule an earlier appointment, while those who are attending the IU ceremony can come to the Law School afterwards. These visits will be outside only (a no-visitor policy is in still place, and finals will be occurring in several first-floor classrooms). Visits will be scheduled in 15-minute intervals to ensure staggered arrivals and social distancing. Please arrive at your scheduled time and plan to wear a mask (you can take it off for photos). Schedule your Baier Hall graduation visit no later than Friday, April 30 at noon EDT.
If you’re not in Bloomington and have no plans to return for graduation or at any point throughout the summer, you may choose home delivery of your graduation items. These items will not be mailed until after graduation, likely the week of May 10. Requests made on or before Friday, April 30 will be honored.
iClickers
Please return your iClicker to the Law School before you graduate. There is a collection box at the main desk of the Jerome Hall Law Library. Please initial next to your name on the sheet next to the box to confirm your iClicker’s return. If you’re returning to Bloomington just for graduation, we will have a collection box for these where you check in for your Baier Hall visit on May 7.
