Laura Fonseca named director of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Laura Fonseca has been named the Law School's first director of diversity, equity, and inclusion, effective July 1, 2021.
In addition to working with student groups and student organizations, Fonseca will work closely with the Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Committee; the school's director of student affairs, Katie Beck; and the Office of Admissions, including the associate director of admissions, Kendra Abercrombie, who oversees diversity recruiting initiatives. Fonseca will continue to collaborate with the Career Services Office, where she has been a director since 2018.
In addition to her impressive background in recruitment, international development, career services, and employer relations, Fonseca has experience leading DEI trainings and discussions and has worked with the School of Medicine’s Faculty Affairs team on their diversity and hiring initiatives. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in higher education, focusing on change and institutional influence over equity- centered policy. Some of her recently presented work focuses on the importance of diverse representation in faculty, and the persistence of women of color in STEM.
