Statutory Interpretation and Case Law on the Street

Join Criminal Law Society for an engaging panel discussion with criminal law practitioners exploring the critical role police officers play in interpreting statutes and case law in their daily duties. Topics include the extent of legal interpretation required by officers in the field; how training and legal precedent shape enforcement decisions; the balance between statutory law, case law, and discretion; potential reforms and policy considerations.
Panelists include Kyle Dugger '15, deputy public defender of Monroe County; Jeffrey Kehr '97, chief deputy prosecuting attorney of Monroe County; Sergeant Tyler Ogden, IU Police Department; and Raquel Ramirez '05, general counsel for the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

A session in the series, Big Ten Law Schools Present: The Rule of Law in 2025
The Big Ten law schools have coordinated a series of virtual panel discussions that examine the Rule of Law in 2025 after an unprecedented series of executive orders, legal interpretations, and administrative actions by the Trump administration over the last several months. Distinguished panelists will present a broad range of perspectives and nuanced views on the rule of law during a period of constitutional, legal, and governmental recalibration. These discussions will take place virtually every Wednesday through May 28. The first event in this series will be hosted virtually by The Ohio State University Moritz School of Law, with experts discussing separation of powers, executive authority, and compliance with court orders. Everyone is invited to participate. A Zoom link will be available on Wednesdays before the event begins.

Legal Protections for Disabled Survivors of Domestic Violence
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the DeLaney Moot Court Room
Join Protective Order Project to examine how federal and state laws impact individuals with disabilities who experience domestic violence. Disabled people face unique legal barriers when seeking protection, support, and justice. This session will explore key legal frameworks, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Fair Housing Act (FHA), and state-specific domestic violence laws that shape survivors’ access to safety and resources.
By the end of this session, law students will gain a deeper understanding of how legal systems impact disabled survivors, as well as practical strategies for ensuring accessible, equitable legal access.
POP volunteers will receive a POP point for attending.

First Generation Women in Law

In celebration of Women’s History Month, join Latinx Law Student Association, Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, Women's Law Caucus, Middle Eastern Law Students Association, Black Law Students Association, First Generation Law Students Association for a discussion with first-generation lawyers. This special gathering will feature speakers who have overcome obstacles and carved out a path for future generations of women in the law. These pioneering women will share their unique stories, experiences, and lessons learned along their journeys to success.

AlgoRhythms: Copyright Law in the Age of AI
8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
The Law School, in partnership with the Jacobs School of Music, will host a day-long conference on the copyrightability of AI-generated music, musical performances using AI, and including networking opportunities with U.S. Copyright Office representatives, entertainment attorneys, record labels and other industry professionals. The conference is a part of a larger event taking place March 27 - March 29th at the Law School, Jacobs School of Music, and at the IU Innovates space.

Pro bono hours reporting for the classes of 2025 and 2026
Class of 2025 graduates must report their own cumulative pro bono hours by April 1 to be recognized at graduation. In early March 2025, Carolina Academic Press published the new edition of Prof. Leandra Lederman's co-authored "Understanding Corporate Taxation" book. This edition is the 5th, and it is co-authored with Prof. Emily Cauble of Wisconsin Law School.
