The Modern Labor Landscape with Mike Nicholson

Labor and Employment Law Society and American Constitution Society welcome Michael Nicholson, general counsel for the United Auto Workers (UAW). Mr. Nicholson, who has represented the UAW for decades, will discuss how labor law has changed over his career, and how it might change going forward. We encourage anyone interested in labor to attend.

Patent bar preparation Q&A with Mark Dighton, PLI

If you are a student with a degree (or at least two years of coursework) in engineering, computer sciences or the hard sciences (chemistry, biology, physics, or related fields), and are interested in becoming a patent agent or attorney, Practising Law Institute (PLI) invites you to a presentation by Mark Dighton, PLI’s director of law school relations and administrative director of their Patent Office Exam course. Topics for discussion include:
- the latest info on the Patent Office Exam;
- who can take it (including the new "design patent bar");
- how it works (it’s on computer and "on demand");
- when you should take it (you don’t need to…and probably shouldn't…wait until you graduate);
- and recommendations on when and how to study for this very difficult exam.
Bring your own lunch, snacks will be provided.

Film screening: Just Mercy

Join us for an afternoon of film and discussion with a special screening of Just Mercy. Based on the book, the film tells the story of Walter McMillian and his attorney, Bryan Stevenson as they move through the appellate and post-conviction relief process in an attempt to reverse McMillian's wrongful conviction and death sentence.
Hosted by the Incarcerated Individuals Legal Assistance Project and Practice Group Advisors.

New seminar for spring 2025: Seminar in Law and Technology
(Mondays and Tuesdays, 1:15 - 2:10 p.m. in 203)
Prof. João Marinotti will offer a new seminar exploring cutting-edge legal issues in the context of emerging technologies. We will cover topics including artificial intelligence and intellectual property, digital assets and data governance, privacy and digital trespass, right-to-repair and corporate surveillance, and cyberattacks and cyber attribution, among others. Students taking the course will develop a broad understanding of the questions, policies, and technologies that are shaping our daily lives. As a seminar, course assessment is based on short response papers, a final research project, and in-class participation.
