Ahmed Elbasyouney, PhD fellow in law and democracy, will discuss recent developments in Tunisia.
Once celebrated as the only success story of the Arab Spring, Tunisia's democracy and constitutionalism came under stress on July 25 of last year. Since then, the government was sacked, the parliament was suspended, the judiciary was purged, and a new constitution was introduced disrupting the agreed-upon, popularly-approved institutional balance of power. Who was behind the coup? How did the birthplace of the Arab Spring end up there? Constitutional Design is one explanation.

Thinking about our Semester in Washington, D.C. Program?
Students considering applying for fall 2023 are encouraged to apply early to avoid having to sign a lease for the fall 2023 semester. That's especially encouraged if you plan to be away from Bloomington during the summer of 2023, allowing you to save six months of rent here and use some of those funds for Washington, D.C. housing.
If you have questions, feel free to email Prof. Sarah Jane Hughes at sjhughes@indiana.edu.
