Second Amendment at SCOTUS: third time’s a charm?

The Federalist Society will explore the implications of the Supreme Court’s decision this term to grant certiorari in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, which will consider whether the State's denial of petitioners' applications for concealed-carry licenses for self-defense violated the Second Amendment. We will be hosting Clark Neily of the Cato Institute, who litigated the landmark D.C. v. Heller decision in 2008, as well as Professor Jody Madeira, whose scholarship and expertise focuses on the Second Amendment.

CCD Speaker Series: Tim Hellwig on bicameralism and public responsiveness
Noon - 1 p.m. on Zoom
Does the organization of the assembly affect the capacity of governments to deliver policy that reflects the changing preferences of the public? Our theory’s emphasis on the distribution of power between chambers further explains differences within bicameral systems. Study findings have implications for our understanding of how the paths and procedures by which polices are made matters for government responsiveness to public opinion.

The Law & Technology program hosts Dr. Russell Buchan (University of Sheffield School of Law), who will present on cyber-espionage as part of a co-hosted event with the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research.
The CACR Security Speaker Series brings cybersecurity experts from across the nation to present their current research and real-world experiences to IU faculty, staff, and students and is open to anyone interested in cybersecurity issues.

Marshall Law: An Intellectual Property Workshop Celebrating the Career of Marshall Leaffer

A group of distinguished scholars focusing primarily on copyright law and international intellectual property will present their latest work, and will reflect on Prof. Marshall Leaffer's influence in those fields. Greg Zipes: Justice Frank Murphy and Korematsu
Noon - 1 p.m. in the Moot Court Room
Greg Zipes, adjunct professor at the NYU School of Professional Studies, has written a biography on Supreme Court Justice Frank Murphy.
In Korematsu v. U.S., one of the most famous cases surrounding the Japanese internment camps in the U.S., Justice Murphy wrote a dissent declaring that the exclusion of Japanese "falls into the ugly abyss of racism."
Join APALSA, LLSA, and BLSA for this discussion of the case, and how those lessons can be applied today.
A Conversation with Senator Todd Young

The Federalist Society will be hosting Indiana U.S. Senator Todd Young for a lively conversation on the JUDGES Act.

Gong Show
8 - 9:30 p.m. at Bear's Place
The Gong Show is an amateur talent contest meant to be light-hearted and humorous. Each contestant will go before our panel of three judges. If any judge considers the act to be particularly bad, they can force it to stop by striking the gong. If the act survives without being gonged, the contestant will receive a score from each of the judges from 0 to 10 for a maximum score of 30 points. The contestant with the top score will win the grand prize!

Calling students interested in MELSA
The Middle Eastern Law Students Association (MELSA) is for JD, LLM, and SJD students who are interested in gaining a greater understanding of the legal and cultural issues pertaining to the Middle East and Middle Eastern Americans. Our goal is to foster open dialogue in hopes of increasing awareness to the issues that the region is currently facing.

Prof. Leandra Lederman was recently a guest on The Tax Chick Podcast, hosted by Amanda Doucette. This was a crossover episode with Prof. Lederman's YouTube channel, Break Into Tax; portions of the interview appear in each outlet. The discussion focused on tax careers (including listing helpful resources); being a woman in tax; and why they each started a podcast or YouTube channel. The podcast episode is "Cross-Over Episode with Break into Tax!" and the Break Into Tax episode is "Crossover Episode: Talking Tax Careers with The Tax Chick."
