Events
Orientation Session for All Judicial Interns and Externs, Summer 2020
This session is required for judicial externs who are registering for externship credit and for externs in the Rural Justice Initiative. It prepares students who will be working for a judge this summer, whether in-person or remotely. It also serves as a kick-off for the new Judicial Summer Intern/Extern Community that will be created this summer to supplement your experience as a judicial intern and complement your remote or in-person work.

IndyBar Women and the Law Division Mentoring Program
The Indybar understands that COVID–19 has created an uncertain and stressful situation for law students, especially those who are graduating this spring. In an effort to help students navigate these unprecedented times, the IndyBar Women and the Law Division would like to offer to law students at IU Maurer School of Law the opportunity to join its 2020 Mentoring Program. The program opens the door to the IndyBar's abundant network of women lawyers ready to aid law students in their success as future lawyers in Indianapolis. There is no cost to join the program. During the pandemic, mentor groups have been meeting remotely through apps such as Zoom. If you are interested in joining the WLD Mentor Program, please email Deneen Fitzgerald at dfitzgerald@indybar.org by Friday, April 24.

Exam Prep: Electronic Study Aids and Casebooks
As you head into exams, the Jerome Hall Law Library wanted to highlight a few helpful resources to assist in your studies:
- Electronic Casebooks: In case you left your textbooks at school when you departed for spring break, the Law Library has been creating a list of which books are available electronically through the publisher. You can find the list here.
- Online Study Aids: A number of legal publishers have made their online study aids available for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester.
- LexisNexis Study Aids, available through the LexisNexis Digital Library; log in with your IU credentials. (Hint: if you view all titles, you can filter on the left to Study Aids.)
- West Academic’s Study Aids, including hornbooks and nutshells and the popular Gilbert Law Summaries
- Wolters Kluwer’s Online Study Aid Library, including the popular Examples & Explanations series, as well as Emanuel law outlines
- CALI Lessons: Don't forget our friends at CALI and their hundreds of self-paced tutorials on a wide array of legal subjects. Email Ashley (aaahlbra@indiana.edu) for the CALI activation code.

Jumpstart: Prepare to Practice
This year, the Jerome Hall Law Library's summer research tutorials are going virtual. The law librarians are working to make videos and other materials on several legal research topics: administrative law, legislative history, docket research, Indiana legal research, and a general refresher course. These materials will be put on Canvas and made available to anyone who is interested. You'll be notified when the sessions are finished and will be provided with instructions on accessing the Canvas page.
In addition to these sessions, the law librarians are available virtually to help with any research needs you may have over the summer. Please email any librarian directly, fill out the Ask a Librarian form, or use chat reference to set up a reference appointment.
Faculty and Staff News
Prof. Jayanth Krishnan spoke at a webinar sponsored by Jindal Global University titled "Law Schools and Legal Careers in a Post–COVID–19 World: Perspectives from India and USA."
Prof. Jody Madeira recently published two articles on the COVID–19 pandemic: "Core Bioethical Principles and the Ethics of Continued Care During the COVID–19 War" in Fertility and Sterility (co-author), and "First, Prevent Harm: Eliminate Firearm Transfer Liability as a Lethal Means Reduction Strategy" in the American Journal of Public Health.
Prof. Dawn Johnsen participated in an online symposium, The Future of Progressive Constitutionalism, sponsored by the Harvard Law & Policy Review and the Harvard Law School chapter of the American Constitution Society. Her article was titled "Reproductive Rights and the Rule of Law in Peril: The Fruits of a Decades-Long Effort to Reshaped the Judiciary."
Prof. David Gamage is co-organizer of Project SAFE (State Action in Fiscal Emergencies). The project is hosted at the University of Virginia School of Law and can be found at this website. The initial blog post can be found here.
On March 2, 2020, Prof. Leandra Lederman spoke in the Tax Policy Colloquium at Brigham Young University J. Reuben Clark Law School. On April 10, 2020, she spoke at the Critical Tax Conference hosted online by the University of Florida Levin College of Law. In both places, Professor Lederman presented her article titled "The Fraud Triangle and Tax Evasion." In recent weeks, Professor Lederman has also hosted via Zoom two Indiana Law Tax Policy Colloquium talks that, in addition to the students in the class, drew approximately 25 attendees each from around the world.
