Faculty News
A U.S. District Court (M.D. Penn.) last week quoted from Professor Rob Fischman's 2002 article on cooperative federalism in upholding a major EPA rulemaking to establish TMDLs (total maximum daily loads) for the Chesapeake Bay. American Farm Bureau Federation v. U.S. EPA, 2013 WL 5177530, __F.Supp. 2d___ (2013).
On September 23, Indiana Chief Justice Brent E. Dickson signed an order creating an Indiana Commission to Expand Access to Civil Legal Services, charged with studying and expanding the availability of civil legal services to Indiana residents with limited financial resources. The Commission's creation grew out of work over the past two-and-a-half years by a statewide Access to Justice Task Force and Workshop, of which Profs. Amy Applegate and Seth Lahn were members.
Associate Dean and Professor Ajay Mehrotra recently co-led a series of workshops on the topic of "Public Finance and Society" held in Cambridge, MA, and sponsored by the Social Science Research Council and the Andrew Mellon Foundation. The workshops were part of the SSRC's Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship program, which is designed to help graduate students in the humanities, law, and the social sciences with their graduate training and development. As part of the program, Professor Mehrotra also participated in a panel on "Fellowships and Funding Proposals."

Applications For New Moot Court Competition
The Law School will be sending a team to the National Cultural Heritage Law Moot Court Competition at DePaul University this spring. The 2014 competition will focus on the Convention on Cultural Property Implementation Act (CPIA), 19 U.S.C. §§ 2601-13, which establishes a framework for imposing import restrictions on undocumented archaeological and ethnological materials. For more information, please see the competition's webpage.
If you are interested in participating, please email the Society for Law and the Arts (inartlaw@gmail.com) before Friday, October the 4th with your resume, and a brief statement of interest discussing why you would like to participate and any experiences you feel are relevant to the selection process, including previous work or volunteer experiences. Professor Goodwin will be reviewing all applications and will make final decisions regarding the composition of the team. If you are a 1L and would like to participate, send a quick email to the SLA, and we will be sure to get you involved in the process as much as possible.
