Q&A Session on Richard Susskind's Tomorrow's Lawyers
Richard Susskind, the world's leading futurist on the legal profession, will be holding a Q&A session with Maurer students on his most recent book, Tomorrow's Lawyers. The initial portion of the session will be run by 1L students from Professor Henderson's legal profession class, but time will be reserved for the entire Maurer student body. Fittingly, Mr. Susskind will be joining us from London via a Cisco tele-presence connection. To pique your interest, here are the opening lines from Mr. Susskind's important new book: "This book is a short introduction to the future for young and aspiring lawyers. Tomorrow's legal world, as predicted and described here, bears little resemblance to that of the past. Legal institutions and lawyers are at a crossroads, I claim, and are poised to change more radically over the next two decades than they have over the last two centuries. If you are a young lawyer, this revolution will happen on your watch." As space is limited, RSVP on Symplicity (unless you're a legal profession student). Lunch. Moot Court Room, noon.
IT SofTest Sessions for Exams
Room 125, noon.
Westlaw Training
Before you begin your summer working experience, learn cost-effective approaches for your legal research. Room 121, noon.
Journal/Advocacy Meeting for 1Ls
The leaders of the journals and the advocacy programs will meet with the 1L class to provide relevant information about their organizations and then take questions regarding participation in one or more of the programs. Dean Matthews will be on hand to discuss the journal competition process and the selection process for the external moot court competitions. Moot Court Room, 4:00-5:00.
Bible Study
Come have lunch with us! Room 216, noon.
Wednesday, April 17
Professor Shreve's Last Lecture
Professor Shreve is retiring, and the SBA is hosting this last lecture in his honor. Come for one last illuminating lecture from one of Maurer's most decorated professors. Lunch. Moot Court Room, noon.
IT SofTest Sessions for Exams
Room 125, noon.
Thursday, April 18
Patent Trial Practice Course Mock Trial
This trial is a patent dispute between two companies: Plaintiff Mitesbegon, Inc. and Defendant Pioneer Research, Inc. The patent at issue relates to materials and methods useful for the management of certain pests, particularly termites. Pioneer owns this '516 patent. Mitesbegon provides termite-controlling products to pest control companies who license its trademark. Pioneer believes Mitesbegon is infringing its patent, while Mitesbegon believes the patent is invalid. Attendees may have the chance to serve on the jury. RSVP to Allison Hess, allhess@indiana.edu. Note: Doors will close at 8:00 a.m. Moot Court Room, 8:00 - noon. Reception to follow.
Mandatory Class Session for Summer Credit
If you are planning on getting academic credit this summer working for a public interest organization, criminal law organization, judge, government agency, or law firm, you must attend this meeting. Even if you have not yet registered for summer credit but are only considering it as an option, do not miss this meeting discussing requirements, eligibility and more! Room 121, noon.
