An information session for all students interested in applying to the Center for Constitutional Democracy's JD Affiliate Program. PILF Elections and Information Session on Financial Aid and the Public Sector
PILF will host elections during the first half of the meeting, and then Paul Leopold will give a presentation on financial aid and what that means in the public sector. Panel on Marriage Equality at the Supreme Court
IU Maurer faculty will discuss the legal issues at stake in the marriage equality cases challenging DOMA (Windsor) and California Prop 8 (Perry) with special focus on the March 26 and 27 oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court. The panel will include Professors Daniel Conkle, Dawn Johnsen, Steve Sanders, Ryan Scott, and Deborah Widiss. Co-sponsored by Outlaw, FLF, LSRJ, and ACS. Lunch provided. Moot Court Room, noon.
LexisNexis Think Like a Lawyer Part 2: Cost -Effective Research
This training is a great way to prepare for being a summer associate at a firm, working in the public sector, or a judicial clerkship. The class will teach you to conduct effective research without wasting funds in the legal resource account. You will also learn effective research skills. Having attended "Think Like a Lawyer Part 1" is not required. Room 121, noon. Repeats Thursday at noon.

U.S. Supreme Court Oral Argument Moot Session
Greg Castanias, JD'90, Jones Day, Washington, DC, will be arguing the gene patent case (Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics) in the U.S. Supreme Court on April 15, 2013. As part of his preparation for the argument, Greg will have his argument mooted here at the law school. Greg will deliver his argument before a panel consisting of Provost Robel, Tom Fisher, Indiana Solicitor General, and Professors Beth Cate, Conkle, Cripps, Janis, Leaffer, and Mattioli.
The moot session is open to the law school community, but because of confidentiality requirements, we will need to operate a bit differently from usual. First, all attendees must RSVP to Allison Hess (allhess@indiana.edu) by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 2. Second, attendees will be asked to agree to the terms of a confidentiality agreement in order to attend. Third, when the event begins entrance to the Moot Court Room will be closed, and attendees will be requested to remain for the full session (which will last for about an hour). An informal lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the event. Moot Court Room, noon.

Environmental Law Society Elections
The Environmental Law Society is holding elections for officers for the 2013-14 academic year. All ELS members are encouraged to attend and vote for next year's officers. Ambassador Michael Guest, former U.S. ambassador to Romania and the first openly gay ambassador confirmed by the Senate, will speak on "Power, Principle, and Image: U.S. Leadership and Global LGBT Rights." David Cole, Georgetown Law professor and prominent civil liberties lawyer and public commentator, will address "Can the President Order American Citizens Killed Without Trial? Title IX: 40 Years Strong
On June 23, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibit gender-based discrimination by institutions that receive federal money. Since its passage more than 40 years ago, Title IX has created unprecedented opportunities for women in education and sports. Please join the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, along with the Women's Law Caucus, in celebrating this momentous piece of legislation. We will be hosting a panel to discuss the major academic, athletic, and gender relations issues implicated by Title IX's 40th year of life. Our illustrious panel features:

All are welcome to come test their gaming skills! OWLS will be hosting a second game night and providing light snacks. BLSA Alumni Workshops
BLSA Alumni will visit the Law School to conduct their annual workshops.
- Noon-2:00: Journal Write-on Session. Learn how to use the write-on competition to be selected for a journal. You will also learn strategies for writing an effective note topic, teaching what note graders look for, formatting, and making a legal argument).
- Noon-2:00: Moot Court Competition. BLSA members advancing to the spring moot court competition or receiving oral advocacy and/or brief writing honors will share their experiences.
- 2:00-4:00 (for 2Ls and 3Ls): Bar Exam Prep Session. Learn about the bar exam, exam taking strategies, and a take practice exams.

Faculty News
Professors Leandra Lederman and Ajay Mehrotra were two of eleven professors who joined the Brief of Amici Curiae Professor Patricia Cain, et al. in Support of Appellants in the Ninth Circuit case of Voss v. Commissioner, regarding the application of the home mortgage interest deduction to unmarried co-owners of a residence. The brief was filed on February 6, 2013.

Maurer Trial Team Places Second in National Competition
The Maurer trial competition team of Nate Harter, Eric Silvestri, Jared Chester and Jessica Brierly-Snowden finished second in the American Association for Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition in Louisville, March 8-10. This is the most prestigious of the student trial competitions. Congratulations.
PILF Dodgeball Tournament
PILF will hold its annual dodgeball tournament Friday, April 5th from 4-6pm at Bryan Park. Students can form teams of 5-8 members or come out and play as a free agent. 5 team members can be on the field at a time and each team must have at least 2 women. Spectators and cheerleaders are also welcome. The price to play is $5 per person, which also includes dinner. All proceeds go to the PILF summer scholarship fund. Come find the PILF table at lunch all this week and sign up your team.
Inmate Legal Assistance Project Prison Visit
ILAP's next prison visit will be on Monday, April 8th. Volunteers will leave from the Law School around 11:15 AM and should return by 5:00 PM. Interested students should RSVP via email to ilap@indiana.edu no later than Monday, April 1st at 5:00 PM. Those students who have not yet submitted a background check form should do so by that time as well. The forms are located in the envelope outside the ILAP office (on the ground floor). Access to Justice Information Table
Access to Justice pro bono fellows will be at tables in the lobby on Monday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 3 from noon to 1:00. We will be there to answer any questions 3Ls have about the aspirational pro bono requirement of 60 hours upon graduation (last day to report is April 12, 2013); and to take questions about the New York Bar's new 50 hour pro bono requirement, which goes into effect in 2015 (1Ls: this applies to you). Rally for Bei Bei Shuai
Law Students for Reproductive Justice invites you to gather in support of Bei Bei Shuai, the Indiana woman charged with murder and attempted feticide for trying to commit suicide while pregnant and subsequently losing her child. Email iublsrj@gmail.com if you can attend and if you are able to drive or carpool. Sign up to attend the rally on Facebook under "Rally for Bei Bei Shuai." The rally will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 2:00-4:00 at the City-County Building in Indianapolis.

Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week (and, if requested, for the week after that). Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website.
