FLF will be at tables in the lobby asking students and faculty to guess their economic worth based on their ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, etc. The goal is to raise awareness about the pay gap among various groups and to ask for donations to help pay for safe-birthing kits for pregnant women in Haiti. FLF would like to raise $100 for this cause. Questions? Email Amanda Stephens (as48@indiana.edu). Lobby, 11:00 - 1:00.
Wednesday, November 14
1L Interview Workshop
First impressions are crucial and interviewing well is a skill, so the time you spend with recruiting employers can make or break your job search success. This workshop is designed to help you make the most out of your interview experiences. These interactive sessions will cover the comprehensive process, including content, style, and what to wear to make a flawless first impression. Our goal is to empower you with the skills and confidence to succeed during your upcoming interviews. Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP on Symplicity. 1Ls only; Moot Court Room, noon.
Midwest Public Interest Conference Information Session
Public Interest Law Foundation and OCPD will be hosting an information session on the Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference. We will be helping students interested in applying for the public interest jobs to learn to register and navigate the website in order to apply for positions. Room 121, 12:30-1:00.
Indiana State Bar Association Panel Discussion
If you are considering a legal career in Indiana, you should take advantage of the tremendous resources of the ISBA during your law school tenure and beyond. Come and hear a vibrant panel of Indiana-based attorneys talk about their career paths and how ISBA has proven helpful.
The panelists will speak briefly about their law practice or position, their involvement with the ISBA, and how involvement in a bar association helped them in their current position. They will also discuss the anxiety students face in the job search. RSVP on Symplicity. Lunch will be provided by the ISBA. Room 124, noon.
Feminist Law Forum Equal-Pay Bake Sale, Part II
FLF will again be at tables in the lobby to inform students and faculty members of whether their pay-gap estimates were correct. Also, the Indiana Law community will have the opportunity to make another donation for a safe-birthing kit — this time in exchange for a tasty treat! Questions? E-mail Amanda Stephens (as48@indiana.edu). Lobby, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Musical Auditions
It's time to audition for this year's musical! Anyone with any interest in the musical, whether on-stage or off, should come to the auditions and sign up. We had an outstanding show last year, and this one should be even better! If you're auditioning, prepare a short song selection to perform for the staff, and you can either prepare a short comedic monologue or will be provided a script for an acting audition. If you are singing, we will have an accompanist, but please bring your own sheet music for him. We prefer that you come at 6:30, but any point during the allotted time is fine. Moot Court Room, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 15
1L Cover Letter Workshop
Your cover letter is the first writing sample a prospective employer will see. Learn the essentials of this marketing piece, which introduces your resume. It's so important to customize your letters since templates are counterproductive and off-putting to employers. This workshop will provide you with the tools to craft effective cover letters that get noticed. Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP on Symplicity. 1Ls only; Moot Court Room, noon.
1L Resume Roundtable
This event is already full, but a reminder to attending students: Bring at least 20 copies of your resume (inexpensive paper is fine) for individual five-minute reviews with each attorney. Recruiting employers often use this session to get a sneak peek at the 1L talent pool, so dress professionally and remember: first impressions last! 1Ls with reservations only. Student Lounge, 5:30 p.m.
Musical Auditions
See Wednesday for details. Moot Court Room, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Friday, November 16
Graduate Student Services Presentation: Exam Procedures and Policies
Law graduate students enrolled in law school classes that have final exams are required to attend this session. Ms. Lara Gose and Dean Lesley Davis will explain the Law School's policies and procedures for graduate student exams, including exam times and rooms, materials allowed in the exam room, laptop computer use, Scantrons and bluebooks, proctors, and re-scheduling exams. Students should bring their copy of the Graduate Student Handbook with them to this meeting. Room 122, 11:00-noon.
Information Session on the Credit-Transfer Option Process for LL.M. Students
Current LL.M. and M.C.L. students who are interested in learning more about the Credit-Transfer Option (CTO) program, which allows LL.M. and M.C.L. students to participate in law school classes as if they were students in the J.D. program, should attend this session. Because students in the CTO program will be graded on the J.D. scale instead of the graduate student scale, credits they earn this way may be transferred into the J.D. program here. Students in the CTO program must apply for admission to the J.D. program; participation in the CTO program does not guarantee admission into the J.D. program. Representatives from the Office of Graduate Legal Studies and J.D. Admissions will explain the nomination process for the CTO program and the application process for the J.D. program. Room 222, noon-1:00.
Careers in Prosecution
Lance Lindeen, JD/MPA'11, is now serving as deputy prosecutor in the Philadelphia Office of the District Attorney. He is the official recruiting liaison for Indiana Law and will be here to discuss careers in prosecution and the work he does in Philadelphia. Learn the inside scoop of the prosecutorial world and how to market yourself for this type of career. This informal discussion is a great way to ask questions of a generous alumnus who is looking for new talent interested in Philadelphia. Pizza will be provided for those who RSVP on Symplicity. All students invited. Room 122, noon.
Graduate Legal Studies Colloquium: Cite-checking with Chris Ziegler
Regular weekly gathering of graduate students to discuss research interests and common academic concerns. Room 124, 1:30-2:30.
Saturday, November 17
