This Week in the Law School

This Is Wellness Week!

The Law School is hosting Wellness Week from March 26-30. We are offering traditional and not-so-traditional programming for all students in an attempt to help you improve your overall look at wellness. The week will include stress/resilience sessions, a service provider fair (nutrition, wellness education, outdoor adventures, exercise classes, and state bar association agencies — we are a law school after all!), a work-life balance panel, and some abbreviated classes/demonstrations in yoga, pilates, tai chi, and mindfulness meditation. See listings for each day below.

Dean Fromm will host a session on resilience through energy enhancement and stress management techniques. Room 125, 11-11:45 a.m. Repeats Tuesday and Wednesday.

BLSA Constitutional Review and General Body Meeting

BLSA will voting on amendments to its constitution and bylaws. We will try to move as quickly as possible through this process. If there is enough time left, we will discuss upcoming events and a wrap-up of regionals and nationals. Room 125, noon.

Country Talk: South Korea

Please join us for another installment in the Country Talk Series. The topic is legal education and the practice of law in South Korea. The speaker is visiting scholar and Indiana Law alumnus KwangRok Kim, who is a professor of law at Chungbuk National University School of Law. Professor Kim received an LLM from Maurer School of Law and a JSD from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. Noon, room 125. Lunch featuring Korean food will be provided.

Current Issues in LGBTQ and Immigration Advocacy featuring Christopher Daley

Join Christopher Daley, Access to Justice, and the newly established LGBTQ and Immigration Clinical Projects for a discussion of emerging issues in LGBTQ and Immigration law. Christopher Daley is the Deputy Executive Director of Just Detention International, a Washington D.C.-based health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. For more than 15 years, Mr. Daley has been active in advancing civil rights and public health issues. He is a founder and the inaugural Director of California's Transgender Law Center, a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary agency working to end discrimination and harassment of transgender people and their families. Mr. Daley has also worked on issues of immigrants' rights, ending homelessness, public benefits advocacy, HIV education and prevention, and abuse of police power. Mr. Daley will join us virtually from D.C. Lunch will be provided. Room 125, noon.

Center for Law, Society & Culture Colloquium Series: "Whither Law & Society's Activist Agenda?"

Author Meets Readers: Professor Richard Banks of Stanford University Law School will discuss his book, Is Marriage for White People? How the African American Marriage Decline Affects Everyone. The readers/commentators include Profs. Jeannine Bell and Deborah Widiss of the Maurer School of Law and Prof. Brian Powell of the IU Department of Sociology. Noon in room 335. Lunch will be served.

Career Choices: Practicing Globally

Please join Sara Bosco, JD'83, to learn more about careers the require practicing law globally. Ms. Bosco is president of Emerson Asia Pacific, which employs more than 50,000 people in 17 research and development centers across the region. Pizza will be provided to those who RSVP on Symplicity. Center for Constitutional Democracy Informational Meeting

The Center for Constitutional Democracy will be holding an informational meeting for all interested 1L's and 2L's at noon on Thursday, March 29, in the CCD building (across 3rd street from the Law School). Please attend if you are interested in the development of constitutional democracy or have specific interests or knowledge related to emerging democracies in Burma, Vietnam, Liberia, Moldova, North Africa, the Middle East, or other areas.

ELS Environmental Internship Panel

Students who have completed internships related to environmental law will share their experiences and advice for searching for, applying to, and getting these internships. Q&A will follow. Room 122, noon.

ISBA Conference Scholarships Available

If you are interested in attending the Indiana State Bar Association Solo and Small Firm Conference and would like to apply for a scholarship, please stop by OCPD and pick up an application. The conference is May 31 - June 2 and scholarship applications are due April 15.

Environmental Law Society Green Games

The Environmental Law Society (ELS) is hosting the first ever Green Games on Thursday, March 29th, from 7:30pm - 10:00pm. You can register as an individual or team (teams may consist of 5-6 people). Registration deadline is March 29th (noon hour). Look for the ELS table during the lunch hour March 26-29 to buy your ticket and register! Tickets are $8; $10 for non-members, including appetizers. Sigma Chi Seeking a Resident Advisor

Sigma Chi Fraternity is looking for a graduate student live-in advisor for the IU chapter during the 2012 - 2013 academic year. The position is unpaid; however, room and board is provided at the chapter house. While Sigma Chis are encouraged to consider the position, being a Sigma Chi is not necessary. Teaching Assistantships for 2012-13 Academic Year

The Graduate Legal Studies Program will be hiring teaching assistants for the 2012-13 academic year. The teaching assistants will work with international students in their legal writing and research course, the practicum and academic legal writing. Applicants must be available for approximately ten hours each week, possess strong research and writing skills, and while previous teaching experience is preferable, it is not required. Persons selected to fill these positions must be available for orientation beginning on August 15. Teaching assistants will be appointed on a semester basis, with reappointment in the spring conditioned upon performance in the fall. The stipend per semester is $1,500.00

An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.

ILA Submissions

The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact Ken Turchi (kturchi@indiana.edu; phone 856-4044). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.

Audio-Video Services

Send requests for AV services to Max Exter (av@exchange.iu.edu). Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event.
