OCPD Interview Workshop: Content and Style
First impressions are crucial and interviewing well is a skill, so the time you spend with recruiting employers can make or break your job search success. This workshop series is designed to help you make the most of your interview experiences. Our goal is to empower you with the skills and confidence to succeed during your upcoming interviews. The substance portion of this workshop will cover interview content: types of interviews, questions to prepare, research and strategies for answering the toughest questions. The style portion of this session will cover: dressing for success, body language, communication techniques, attitude and professionalism. Pizza will be provided for those who RSVP on Symplicity. Room 120, noon.

Government Honors and Other Public Interest Opportunities
Join the Office of Career and Professional Development and the Public Interest Law Foundation for an informational meeting on finding internships and jobs in government. The government honors and internship program, including opportunities in federal, state and local government, (many of which have rapidly approaching deadlines); information on public defender and prosecutor searches and the B545 Criminal Externship program; and the final semester in DC will be among the discussed topics. Pizza will be provided for those who RSVP on Symplicity. Room 213, noon.

CJAM Basic Mediation Training
The Community Justice Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 32-hour Basic Mediation Training for any community member interested in helping facilitate community mediation or victim-offender reconciliation. The fall training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 17, 18, 24, and 25 at the Law School. Participants who complete the training are eligible to work as CJAM volunteer mediators; however, any community member interested in learning basic mediation skills is welcome to participate. The training will be lead by Senior Mediators from the Community Justice and Mediation Center Tuition is $200, with scholarships available. Registration forms are at www.cjam.org. School of Education Assistant Needed
A professor from the School of Education who teaches public school law is looking for 1-2 law students to work with her undergraduate school law course. The topics addressed in the course include: church/state relations, student speech rights, special education law, teacher privacy rights, tort law, collective bargaining, and teacher contracts. Classes meet on Monday and/or Wednesday evenings. The time commitment would be approximately 3-5 hours per week, and students can receive 1 credit. This is not a paid position. Law students who worked as teachers before enrolling in law school are highly preferred. Please email a resume to Professor Suzanne Eckes at seckes@indiana.edu.
Coming Events
The Islamic Studies Program invites the Law School community to a reception to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year. The reception will be held in the University Club's President's Room on September 1st, 2011 at 6:00 pm. Guest speaker Dr. Ahmed Elshamsy from the University of Chicago's Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations will give a keynote address. This year's winners of the Alani and DeWeese Awards will be announced at the reception. Light refreshments will be served. The University Club is located on the first floor of the Indiana Memorial Union.
Faculty News
On July 29, 2011, Professor Leandra Lederman co-presented her co-authored paper, "Which Regular and Small Tax Court Cases Go to Trial?" at the Empirical Tax Conference, Colorado Law School in Boulder, CO. On the same day, she was a discussant on a paper by Joshua Blank and Nancy Staudt, "Corporate Tax Abuse in Court." On July 25, she moderated a panel at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools meeting in Hilton Head, SC, "Supreme Court and Legislative Update: Business and Regulatory Issues." On June 3, Professor Lederman presented her article entitled "Hold the Mayo: What Respect Should Courts Accord Tax Rulings and Regulations Issued During Litigation?" at the Law & Society Association meeting in San Francisco, CA. She presented the same paper at the New York University School of Law Tax Policy Colloquium in New York, NY on April 21. She also presented it on April 15 at the Washburn University School of Law Tax Law Colloquium in Topeka, KS.

ILA Submissions
Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact Ken Turchi (kturchi@indiana.edu; phone 856-4044). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
Audio-Video Services
