Professor Michael A. Olivas, William B. Bates Distinguished Chair of Law and Director, Institute of Higher Education Law and Governance, University of Houston, delivers the 2011 Jerome Hall Lecture, titled "Governing Badly: Theory and Practice of Bad Ideas in College Decision-making." Olivas is also president of the Association of American Law Schools. Moot Court Room, noon.

1Ls Needed to Serve as Moot Court Bailiffs
The Moot Court Board is seeking 1Ls to serve as bailiffs for the spring rounds of the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition. The spring rounds feature the top 32 advocates who have advanced from the fall rounds. Octofinals begin Wednesday, February 16th. If you are interested, contact the moot court board at lawmoot@indiana.edu.
Venture Capital Competition Team Advances to Carnegie Mellon
On Saturday, January 22, the Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic held the third annual internal Venture Capital Competition at the law school. The competition continues to grow, and interest from more than 50 students led to our largest contest thus far. The teams heard pitches from two competing entrepreneurs: a local medical device company seeking $3 million in funding and a local alternative energy startup seeking just under $5 million. After a day of due diligence interviews, term sheet drafting, and negotiation with the entrepreneurs, Team Woodlawn (2nd year MBAs Michael Petersen, Steven Anderson, and Erika Vanover; 2L JD Josh Lipton; and 3L JD/MBA Michael Haanpaa) narrowly edged out the competition.
Congratulations to the winners, who will represent IU at the national VCIC competition in February at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Special thanks to our judges, including Prof. Brian Broughman, who helped with training and judging.

You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.

Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting.
Audio-Video Services
Send requests for AV services to Max Exter (av@exchange.iu.edu). Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
