Announcements
Congratulations Law Student Trial Advocacy Participants!
Congratulations to Brielle Bovee, Lance Lindeen, John Frank, and Aaron Spolarich for advancing to the semifinals in the seventh annual Law Student Trial Advocacy Competition, sponsored by the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law. 3Ls Brian Lohnes, Greg Buhl, Zach Raibley, and Jessi Meredith also represented the Law School in the trial competition, which took place in Chicago on November 19 and 20. Throughout the competition, Ashley Schneider, Alex Simpson, and Anthony Marek provided exceptional coaching and support to both teams, as did Professor Alex Tanford throughout their preparation process.
2011 CJAM Mediation Training
The Community Justice Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 32-hour basic mediation training for any community member interested in helping facilitate community mediation or victim-offender reconciliation. The winter training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 22, 23, 29, and 30 at the Law School. Participants who complete the training are eligible to work as CJAM volunteer mediators; however, any community member interested in learning basic mediation skills is welcome to participate. Professor Emeritus of Law Edwin H. Greenebaum will serve as the principal training instructor. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and taught Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation at the Maurer School of Law until his retirement. Tuition is $200, with scholarships available. Registration forms are at www.cjam.org. For more information, e-mail training@cjam.org.
BLSA Food Drive
The Black Law Student Association is collecting cans and other nonperishable food items for its food drive during the entire month of November. All food items will be donated to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, which distributes food to those in need. Please donate cans and other nonperishable food items inside boxes located outside the library and outside the BLSA office. Contact Yoni Moise at ydmoise@indiana.edu if you have any questions.
Teaching Assistants Wanted
A professor of school law from the School of Education is looking for two or three law students (2 and 3Ls) to assist with her undergraduate school law course. Law students would assist with lesson plans, grading, and some teaching. Topics addressed in the course include church-state relations, student speech rights, special education law, teacher privacy rights, tort law, and teacher contracts. The course meets on Mondays from 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. The time commitment would be approximately three or four hours per week during the fall semester. This is not a paid position. One hour of directed reading credit might be available. If you are interested in assisting, please email a resume to Professor Martha McCarthy at mccarthy@indiana.edu. Professor McCarthy prefers applicants with an interest in school legal issues. Prior teaching experience would be helpful, too, but is not required.
Scheduling Events
An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.
