Preparing for the MPRE? Visiting Professor John Steele will present his patented MPRE preparatory lecture Tuesday evening. Time and location have yet to be determined, but watch for an announcement from Assistant Dean Len Fromm for further details.
The Student Bar Association presents its annual Town Hall Meeting with Dean Lauren Robel on Wednesday at noon. She will field your questions and listen to your thoughts and concerns, so plan to attend Wednesday's event.
Indiana Law's LGBT Advisory Board presents its inaugural event — a panel discussion on marriage equality rights for same-sex couples — on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m. A distinguished panel will offer perspectives on gay marriage, including national and local legislative updates.
MONDAY, MARCH 1
One-on-One Coaching with Diana Mercer
Diana Mercer, JD'88, will be in room 352 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on March 1 for individual 20 minute career coaching sessions with students. Mercer is the co-author of Your Divorce Advisor: A Lawyer and a Psychologist Guide You Through the Legal and Emotional Landscape of Divorce (Simon & Schuster/Fireside 2001). She is also the founder of Peace Talks Mediation Services located in Los Angeles. Mercer has extensive networking and professional experiences having worked as a litigator in a top law firm and with the entertainment industry.
Oral Argument Advice from PDP
PDP will be hosting a talk with advice and tips for 1Ls who are PDP members or considering joining PDP to help them with their upcoming oral argument for Legal Research and Writing. Bring your lunch and hear the winners of last year's Moot Court competition offer useful hints. Room 120, from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 1.
TUESDAY, MARCH 2
MPRE Prep with John Steele
Visiting Professor John Steele will present his MPRE prep lecture on Tuesday evening. The MPRE exam is being given March 6. The lecture will last about 2.5 hours with a short break in the middle. Look for a special e-mail from Assistant Dean Len Fromm with details on the specific time and location of the event, but an outline of Steele's presentation is already available for download to assist with your study preparation.
Judicial Clerkship Faculty Reception
Discuss judicial clerkships with your professors who have completed them and gain insights from their experiences from 5 to 6 p.m. in room 310. RSVP on Symplicity.
Job and Internship Searching for International Grad Students
Peter Hook, electronic services librarian and lecturer in law, will demonstrate tools to research law firms in Lexis/Nexis and Westlaw, and Assistant Dean Michael Keller will present a variety of resources and strategies that international graduate students can use in their search for internships or jobs. This information session, from 1 to 2 p.m. on March 2 in room 213, will be useful for students who want to take advantage of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation.
PILF Group Meeting
The Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) will be holding its next group meeting on Tuesday, March 2, at noon in the Moot Court Room. Our special guest, Paul Leopold, will discuss financial aid concerns relating to summer internships as well as the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (relating to loan forgiveness for those who pursue careers in public interest law). Don't miss this great opportunity to learn how to make ends meet and minimize repayment on those student loans! Lunch will be provided.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3
Town Hall with Dean Robel
The Student Bar Association (SBA) Town Hall Meeting featuring Dean Lauren Robel will take place at noon on Wednesday, March 3, in the Moot Court Room. The Town Hall Meeting is a chance for students to raise any topic of interest directly with Dean Robel. It is an open, interactive session that is full of helpful information and thought-provoking discussion that students simply should not miss. Food will be provided.
THURSDAY, MARCH 4
Marriage Equality for Same-Sex Couples
The future of equality for same-sex couples is being decided in courtrooms, statehouses, and at the ballot box. On March 4, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., a panel of experts will provide an update on developments around the country and here at home in Indiana, and will discuss how these events are reshaping the law and our understanding of marriage. Panelists include Michael D. Shumate, a retired partner from Jones Day; Steve Sanders, of Mayer Brown LLP; IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs Professor Sheila Kennedy; and Indiana Law Professor Deborah Widiss. Dean Lauren Robel will moderate the discussion, which will be held in the Moot Court Room. A reception will follow.

Protective Order Project Training Session
This training session will take place in the POP office on Thursday, March 4, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Due to several requests by POP volunteers, the executive board has scheduled a short office training session to serve as a refresher on phone and e-mail procedures and updating the case management system. Bring your questions!

BLSA Game Night
You got game? Then bring it to the BLSA's Spades Tournament and Game Night, Saturday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in the student lounge. There will be a spades tournament, along with other games, like Taboo. Food will also be provided! Admission is only $5. Come compete for prizes, and of course, bragging rights! This is a perfect opportunity to have fun and relax from studying, brief writing, and anything law school related.
FACULTY NEWS
Professor Ajay Mehrotra's article, "Lawyers, Guns & Public Monies: The U.S. Treasury, World War I, and the Administration of the Modern Fiscal State," was recently published in Law & History Review as part of a forum in which two other historians commented on the article, and Mehrotra provided a brief response.
Professor Rob Fischman's chapter entitled "The Federalism Dynamic in Natural Resources Law" is now published in the new book, The Evolution of Natural Resources Law and Policy.

Flowers, McPike Named Moot Court Winners
Congratulations to Timothy Flowers and Jonathan McPike, the 2009-10 Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition champions, and to all who participated and assisted with this year's competition.
Apply for Student Body Supreme Court Positions
The Student Body Supreme Court of Indiana University is currently accepting applications for associate justice positions for the 2010-2011 academic year. You can download the application online. Applications are due on Friday, March 12, at 11:59 p.m. via e-mail to court@indiana.edu. Questions about the positions can be sent to that e-mail address as well.
VCIC Team Wins Second Place
Indiana University's Venture Capital Investment Competition team won second place at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Final at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon. IU's team was comprised of third-year law students Casey Plant and Marshall Magaro, fourth-year JD/MBA Brian Villa, and second-year MBA students Emily Geiger and Perry Griffith. This same team won IU's internal VCIC contest last fall. At Tepper, the team beat out competitors from Maryland, Rochester, Virginia, and Vanderbilt, taking second to a strong team from Georgetown.
Law School Trial Tournament Awards
The annual Law School Trial Tournament was conducted February 12-14, with Noah Pinegar winning the championship. The winning plaintiff team was comprised of Pinegar and Lance Lindeen, while Rory Layne and Eric Smith were the winning defense team. Outstanding advocacy awards were given to Gillian Crowl, Joshua Fix, Layne, Lindeen, John Lowrey, Max Kinman, Monica Palacio, Phil Olsson, Pinegar, Lauren Seibold, and Smith. VITA Offering Free Tax Assistance
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is providing free income tax preparation for low- and moderate-income taxpayers is available Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. in room 122. All taxpayers making less than $49,000 per year qualify (including students, faculty, and staff), and may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. VITA is unable to assist foreign students with their taxes.

BARBRI will table from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays for the remainder of the semester. 1Ls can sign up now for any state and lock in your tuition price for your bar review class in 2012 or 2013, as well as get a helpful first-year review book containing a review of all of your required classes for your first year, example outlines, and helpful study questions. Upper-level students should stop by and pick up their upper-level review books. Bible Study Group
The Christian Legal Society has changed its Bible study time for this semester. CLS is holding weekly Bible study and prayer on Tuesdays at noon in room 215 of the Law School. Report Your Pro Bono Hours For Graduation Recognition
All students who reported pro bono hours during the fall 2009 semester should have received an email indicating total hours reported for fall 2009. If you did not receive an email, or believe that your total hours are incorrect, please email Judy Reckelhoff and Megan Mullett, Pro Bono Fellows, at WeDoGood@indiana.edu. As a reminder: to receive graduation recognition, current 3Ls must report a minimum of 20 pro bono hours for the 2009-10 school year. (Current 2Ls must report a minimum of 40 hours before they graduate, and current 1Ls must report a minimum of 60 hours before they graduate to receive graduation recognition.)
ILA Submissions
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 856-1497).
Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter av@exchange.iu.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
