THIS WEEK IN THE LAW SCHOOL

The Public Interest Law Foundation, the Inmate Legal Assistance Project, and the Protective Order Project meet this week.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 29

PILF Meeting

The Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) will meet at noon in the Moot Court Room. Food will be provided. We will discuss the spring break relief trip, Singing for Summer Salaries, and vacant board positions.

ILAP Training Session

In preparation for trips to the prison to help clients this semester, the Inmate Legal Assistance Project (ILAP) is offering a training session from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in room 125. We'll also be introducing our new supervisor, Professor Seth Lahn and dealing with security clearance issues. Current and new members are welcome to attend, and food will be provided.

ILAP provides free legal aid to inmates at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, Ind. Every other Friday afternoon, we interview clients at the prison. We also correspond with clients by mail, and many of our members who cannot attend prison trips assist clients this way. We primarily assist with criminal appeals, civil issues, and tort claims. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30

Cover Letter/Resume Workshop

The Office of Career and Professional Development presents a Cover Letter/Resume Workshop from noon to 1 p.m., room TBD. The cover letter and resume are important parts of your professional took kit. These marketing pieces will entice a recruiter to bring you in for an interview so it's important to look good on paper and make a positive first impression. The session is designed for 1Ls but all are welcome. Please sign up on Symplicity. See Kathryn Bullerdick (kbullerd@indiana.edu) in the OCPD for further details.

POP Meeting

Current Protective Order Project (POP) members and anyone who is interested in becoming a POP member should attend our spring semester meeting at 6 p.m. in room 121. Dinner will be provided. We will discuss last semester's successes, potential legislative advocacy opportunities, some procedural issues, executive positions for the next academic year, and more. Members who have items they'd like to see addressed at the meeting may contact Erika Kroeger at eoliphan@indiana.edu prior to the meeting.

General Job Search Strategies Workshop

The Office of Career and Professional Development will host a General Job Search Strategies Workshop from noon to 1 p.m., room TBD. It's time to start thinking about summer job opportunities. Your summer work can lay the foundation for your future career. Learn the strategies for an effective job search including self assessment, research, application, and networking. On Feb. 2, Professor Kevin Brown will be speaking on a panel titled "Where Do We Go From Here: Affirmative Action, Desegregation and Constitutional Theory?" at the University of Miami Law Review Symposium, "The Future of Affirmative Action: Seattle School District #1, Race, Education, and the Constitution."

The Art of Effective Interviewing

The Office of Career and Professional Development presents the Art of Effective Interviewing from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 23, in the Moot Court Room. Interviewing is a skill you will use for the rest of your professional life. Plan to attend this engaging and entertaining event presented by Jon Vegosen, founding partner of Funkhouser Vegosen Liebman & Dunn Ltd., a vibrant, small-sized law firm in Chicago. Vegosen will perform a roleplay with Randi Kohn, director of administration and development and also give you an opportunity to ask questions. Funkhouser will be recruiting Indiana Law students in 2008, so they are eager to meet you and share their wisdom about the art of effective interviewing and tell you about their firm. In addition to learning about interview techniques, this is a great opportunity to network. So plan your first-impression wardrobe accordingly. All students are welcome sign up on Symplicity. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Research Assistants Needed

Professor Timothy Waters is seeking a research assistant to work on a project on implications of the termination of the Milosevic trial and on democratic processes and international intervention in Bosnia. The ideal candidate will read a major European language or a language of the former Yugoslavia, but all applications are welcome.

Waters is also seeking a research assistant to work on project on the Bagaragaza trial and efforts to remove it from the International Tribunal to Norway rather than Rwanda due to concerns about Rwanda's death penalty. The ideal candidate will read French, but all applications are welcome. Send resume, note on relevant experience, and interests to Leslie Coss, lcoss@indiana.edu.

Kaplan PMBR Hiring Student Representatives

Kaplan PMBR is dedicated to preparing law students for law school and professional success as a provider of final exam and bar exam preparation materials and courses. Student representative commitment is approximately 20 hours per semester. Benefits include free Kaplan PMBR 6-day and 3-day courses plus monetary compensation. 2L and 1L students may apply. SBA Representatives Selected

The Student Bar Association (SBA) has new 1L and 3L representatives. Amir Ali has replaced Will Van Hook for the 1L class and Doug Hass has replaced Kate Ahlgren for the 3L class. Remember that these are your representatives and they are here to serve you. The SBA Diversity Committee will meet every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the SBA Office/Bookstore. Feel free to stop by to listen to the latest topics of offer suggestions.

Career Counseling Appointments

Per NALP guidelines, 1L students may now schedule Career Counseling Appointments with the Office of Career and Professional Development. Schedule in-person only in room 020. See Kathryn Bullerdick (kbullerd@indiana.edu) in the OCPD for more information.

Exam Prep from SBA Bookstore

It's exam and outlining time. Are you starting realize you need supplements? Would you like to get a head start on buying your books for next semester? Either way, come to the SBA BOOKSTORE. We have supplements and textbooks for almost every course with prices that beat buying them new! Also, don't forget to bring your old books and supplements in to earn some cash as those loans run out at the end of the semester!

Scheduling Events

All e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

Audio-Video Services

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
