HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 24

Tickets for the SLA Halloween Party and the BLSA Gong Show will be on sale in the lobby this week. Halloween Party tickets are $15, and Gong Show tickets purchased in advance are $8 ($10 at the door). Gong Show and Halloween Party tickets purchased together are $21.

The fourth speaker for the "Lunch with Lawyers" program, Judge Rudolph Jansen, will talk to students from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the Career Services Office (room 020). Jansen is an administrative law judge with the Cincinnati Department of Labor.

OWLS is sponsoring trick-or-treating and a costume competition for children of Law School faculty, staff, and students. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Law School. Volunteers are needed.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26

"Lunch with Lawyers" Program

Judge Rudolph Jansen, an administrative law judge working with the Department of Labor in Cincinnati, will talk to students as part of the "Lunch with Lawyers" program from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Career Services Office (room 020). This will be a good informational session for 1Ls and a good networking opportunity for 3Ls interested in doing a clerkship upon graduation. Students who are interested in having lunch provided must RSVP by noon on Tuesday, Oct. 25, to Bruce Farrand (855-0258, bfarrand@indiana.edu).

Law and Society Workshop

The next Law and Society Workshop will be held at 4 p.m. in the Faculty Conference Room (335). Stephanie Kane, associate professor in the Departments of Criminal Justice and Gender Studies, will be presenting "Water in Global Port Cities: The Role of Law." Copies of the paper can be downloaded from the Law and Society Workshop Web page at: http://law.indiana.edu/curriculum/programs/centers/lawsociety/workshops.shtml. Snacks and refreshments will be served. Please share this announcement with others, particularly graduate students, who might be interested in attending.

PDP Blood Drive

Phi Delta Phi (PDP) International Legal Fraternity will be hosting a Red Cross blood drive in the Student Lounge. Come help those in need. Snacks will be provided.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27

Halloween Trick-or-Treating for Children of Students, Faculty, Staff

This year, Older and Wiser Law Students (OWLS) is sponsoring trick-or-treating at the Law School. Trick-or-treating will begin at 4:30 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a costume competition in the Student Lounge. Prizes will be awarded, and punch and light snacks will be provided. All children of Law School faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in this event. OWLS will be setting up a table in the first floor lobby where the children can pick up "Evidence Bags" for collecting their treats. We will also have volunteers on each floor of the building to help direct the children to the offices that are participating in the event. Volunteers are needed! To volunteer for the costume competition, contact Nicole Bolden (fbolden@indiana.edu); to volunteer for decorations and refreshments, contact Katherine Nolan (katnolan@indiana.edu); and to volunteer for greeting and general admission, contact John MacKenzie (jpmacken@indiana.edu). There is plenty of work to go around, including cleaning up when the festivities are over. We appreciate everyone who has volunteered to help with this event by opening up their offices to the children.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29

SLA Hosts Halloween Party

Get your costumes ready! The Student Law Association (SLA) will host its annual Halloween Party from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Bloomington Convention Center, 302 S. College Ave. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Free food and beverages will be served. Tickets ($15) will be on sale all week in the lobby.

ISBA Committee Sponsors Program on Indiana Bar Admissions Process

The Indiana State Bar Association's (ISBA) committee on Professional Legal Education, Admission, and Development is sponsoring a program on the process for determining "character and fitness" for admission to the Indiana Bar. The program will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the IU Law School in Indianapolis, on West Street and New York Avenue. The program will include a detailed discussion of the procedures and the standards that apply as well as typical difficulties and ways to address them. BLSA Hosts Annual Gong Show

Come see your fellow students showcase their talents (or embarrass themselves)! The Black Law Student Association (BLSA) will host its annual Gong Show from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at Uncle Fester's, 430 E. Kirkwood Ave. There will be cash prizes for the top performers. Auditions for the Gong Show will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Student Lounge. Sign up at the BLSA Gong Show table during the lunch hour to participate. Ticket prices are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Combined Halloween Party and Gong Show tickets are discounted at $21. Don't miss out on the opportunity to display your talents and win cash!

Union Board Sponsors Mock Appeal

The Union Board is sponsoring a mock Supreme Court appeal of Roe v. Wade at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union. They are in need of 3Ls to argue the case before the Supreme Court panel that will consist of federal judges, law professors, etc. To sign up, e-mail Stephen Hunyadi at shunyadi@indiana.edu, or call 855-4682. Or, you can drop by the Union Board Offices in the student activities tower on the second floor from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

PILF Holds Care Package Drive

The Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) will hold a Care Package drive for soldiers in the 101st Airborne Division currently stationed in Iraq. The drive will be held from Monday, Oct. 24, to Friday, Nov. 4. PILF will have a table in the lobby during lunch both weeks and is accepting both item and monetary donations. See the flyers around the school, stop by the table, or e-mail Mary Spears (mespears@indiana.edu) for donation ideas.

PSA Collects Donations for Earthquake Victims

The IU Pakistani Students Association (PSA) will be collecting funds to help the victims of the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that hit South Asia on Oct. 8. An estimated 79,000 are dead, and 3 million are injured and/or homeless. Many of the survivors, including 10,000 children, face death within the next few weeks alone unless vital supplies and aid reach them in time. The PSA and volunteers from other organizations will be collecting donations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, through Wednesday, Oct. 26. The PSA will have stations set up at the Herman B Wells Library, the Indiana Memorial Union, the Kelley School of Business, Ballantine Hall, and the School of Education.

Professor Cate Looking for Research Assistants

Professor Fred H. Cate is looking for two research assistants with excellent research, analysis, and writing skills to work on information security and national security/privacy issues. Interested students should put a letter summarizing their interest and experience, a resume, and a transcript in Cate's box in the second-floor mail room.

Student Lounge Reserved on Wednesdays for "Lunch with a Lawyer" Program

Career Services will be hosting lunches in the Student Lounge every Wednesday through Nov. 16. We wanted to notify students who normally may use the Student Lounge between noon and 1 p.m. on Wednesdays that the Lounge has been reserved for the "Lunch with a Lawyer" program.

Get Involved with the Pro Bono Project

Would you like to network with attorneys? Do you need more real-world legal experience in order to find a job or to decide what area of law to pursue? Is there a specialty area of law that you would like to pursue, but do not know how? The Pro Bono Project is pleased to announce that students can accomplish all of the above while earning one B710 credit. By becoming involved with the Pro Bono Project, students can work with local attorneys and/or pro se litigants on a variety of cases in a variety of specialty areas. Scheduling Events

All e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

Audio-Video Services

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.

ILA SUBMISSIONS

The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition.
