HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12
Michael Uslan, JD'76, executive producer of Batman and Batman Begins and president of Branded Entertainment, will give a lecture at noon on Monday, Sept. 12, in the Moot Court Room. The Batman films producer will present "From IU Law to Hollywood and Beyond." Following the presentation, a chat session with students will be held from 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge. Drinks, chips, and cookies will be provided. Uslan will participate in a joint Entertainment Law and Legal Negotiations class from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, in room 121. Students who are not enrolled in these classes are welcome to attend as long as there is adequate space.
Professors Dawn Johnson and Kevin Brown will give the next American Constitution Society (ACS) presentation, "Eye on the Roberts Nomination: Civil Rights and Civil Liberties," from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in room 121.
The Career Symposium will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, in the lobby.
Professor David Williams will give a talk at a town hall meeting celebrating "Constitution Day." The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, in the Whittenberger Auditorium at the Indiana Memorial Union.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12
Batman Producer Michael Uslan, JD'76, to Speak About His Career
Michael Uslan, JD' 76, executive producer of Batman and Batman Begins and president of Branded Entertainment, will be at IU this week for the opening of the Michael Uslan Comic Book Collection at the Lilly Library. He has donated thousands of comic books to the university, and many events related to this opening are occurring around campus. Uslan will be attending and lecturing in many university classes and at special events. He will give a lecture, "From IU Law to Hollywood and Beyond," at noon in the Moot Court Room. Following the presentation, a chat session with students will be held from 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge. Drinks, chips, and cookies to be provided. Uslan's complete schedule is listed in the IDS and will be posted around the building.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13
WLC Meeting
The Women's Law Caucus (WLC) will hold its first meeting at noon. Please check the bulletin board outside the library for a room number. Subs and soda will be served. The meeting agenda includes the introduction of officers, the election of a vacated social chair position, a report on our sold-out etiquette dinner, the formation of an auction committee and the budget, and details about our upcoming social events, including a golf lesson and a happy hour.
OWLS Holds First Meeting
Older and Wiser Law Students (OWLS) will hold its first meeting of the year at 12:15 p.m. in room 120. All students who are two years or more out of school, married, divorced, parents, or otherwise nontraditional are welcome and encouraged to attend. Officer positions will be discussed. There will also be a meet-and-greet social this week, time and location TBA.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
Federalist Society Informational Meeting
The Federalist Society will hold its first meeting of the semester from noon to 1 p.m. in room 120. Come out, meet new people, and learn more about the Federalist Society and our activities. All are welcome to attend this meeting.
POP Call-out Meeting
The Protective Order Project (POP) fall call-out meeting is tentatively scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Please check the bulletin board outside of the library for the room announcement. This will be a brief informational meeting. Details will be given about the upcoming fall training. If you are interested in the POP, come join us. This meeting is open for those who signed up, as well as those who didn't.
Professors Johnsen and Brown on Roberts Nomination

ILS Call-out Meeting
The International Law Society (ILS) call-out meeting will be held at noon in room 124. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested in becoming a member or were a member last year and want to continue to participate, please come to this meeting.
Tour Guide Volunteers Needed
As an Indiana Law student, you have the opportunity to play a significant role in the Law School's recruiting efforts for the Class of 2009, and the Admissions Office would appreciate your help. If you are interested in sharing your Law School and community experiences with prospective students during their visits, please plan to attend a Tour Guide Interest Meeting at noon in the Moot Court Room. This meeting will cover the Law School's Tour Guide Program and allow you the opportunity to sign up for a weekly class/tour assignment. Lunch will be provided.

The Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) presentation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in room 125.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
Professor Williams to Speak at "Constitution Day"
Professor David Williams will give a talk at a town hall meeting celebrating "Constitution Day." The event, titled "The United States Constitution as a Model for Others," will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Whittenberger Auditorium at the Indiana Memorial Union. Professor Williams is one of five scholars from IU, the Georgetown University Law Center, and Foreign Policy in Focus who will speak at the event, which promotes the free and fair exchange of ideas about the many different roles played by the Constitution in world history. The event is co-sponsored by the Law School, the IU Dean of the Faculties, the College of Arts and Sciences, the American Studies Program, the Department of History, and the Department of Political Science.

NCSE Director to Speak on Campus
IU Bloomington will be hosting an important player in the current evolution/creationism/intelligent design debate. Dr. Eugenie Scott, the founder and executive director of the National Center for Science Education (NCSE) will be on campus Sept. 21-22 and will be delivering two public lectures. Scott, known as a strong and passionate defender of evolution, frequently appears on national radio and television. Scott will give a public lecture, "The Pillars of Creationism and the Teaching of Evolution," at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the IU Auditorium. A reception will follow. The second talk, titled, "Tracking Those Incredible Creationists: Adventures as a Public Scientist," will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, in Myers Hall 130. There will be pizza in the Jordan Hall atrium.
5th Annual PILF Co-ed Faculty-Student Softball Tournament
Come join the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) for its 5th annual co-ed faculty-student softball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Bryan Park. This annual event raises money for the school's Loan Repayment Assistance Program. Grab your mitt, and compete to play in a final game that pits faculty against students in a no-holds-barred game of slow-pitch softball. All are welcome, and prizes will abound. ELS Hosts "Evening at Oliver Winery"
The annual "Evening at Oliver Winery" hosted by the Environmental Law Society (ELS) will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, at Oliver Winery. The evening will include food, wine, music, a silent auction, and a great chance for students to mingle with faculty and professionals in a relaxed setting. Third Annual JD/LLM Socctoberfest: Kicking into High Gear
On Friday, Sept. 30, at 4:30 p.m., an eerie silence will befall the halls of the Law School when the third annual JD/LLM Socctoberfest kicks off under the lights at Karst Farm Park. Don't be left behind! Join the Law School community to cheer on the teams and enjoy the after-party cookout. Note that the game is co-ed, and students of all ability levels are encouraged to participate. NEWS FROM THE FACULTY
Professor Fred Aman is on sabbatical leave for the fall semester. He is a visiting research collaborator and scholar in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Program in Law and Public Affairs at Princeton University. In the spring, Aman will be the John Marshall Harlan Visiting Professor of Law at the New York Law School. This summer, he finished an article for a book on comparative administrative law titled "The Importance of Being Contextual: Deference South of the Border."
Professor Pat Baude will be giving the "Constitution Day" lecture at Ball State University on Monday, Sept. 12. His presentation is titled "Imagining the Past, Remembering the Future: Martial Law and Shooting Looters."
Professor Fred H. Cate spoke at a congressional briefing on information security and at the Department of Homeland Security's Workshop on the Government's Use of Commercial Data for National Security.

RHA Holds Drive For Hurricane Victims
Approximately 150 people (mostly families and K-12 students) will be coming from Louisiana to live in Ashton residence hall. All residence halls will be collecting new or gently used school supplies. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is going to make about 50 backpacks for children who will be starting school here. Also, the president of each dorm will be collecting money. RHA will be purchasing gift cards to stores around town so that families can pick out supplies they may need (toothpaste, food, clothes, etc). Any student group or individual who would like to donate school supplies can drop them off at any center desk in any residence hall (but if you can, drop them off at Eigenmann's game room, which is on the left as you walk in). Please consider donating paper, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, calculators, crayons, markers, notebooks, folders, and glue. Thank You from the Law Journals
The Federal Communications Law Journal, the Indiana Law Journal, and the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies would like to thank all of the students and faculty members who contributed to the "Dinner and a Donation" movie fundraiser. The Law School community raised $564.68, which will be split between the American Red Cross and the Monroe County United Way to aid displaced citizens of the Gulf. Thank you for your generosity!

Henderson Seeks Research Assistant
Professor Bill Henderson seeks a research assistant for an empirical project on law firms with a special emphasis on issues of gender. Get Involved with the Pro Bono Project
Would you like to network with attorneys? Do you need more real-world legal experience in order to find a job or to decide what area of law to pursue? Is there a specialty area of law that you would like to pursue, but do not know how? The Pro Bono Project is pleased to announce that students can accomplish all of the above while earning one B710 credit. By becoming involved with the Pro Bono Project, students can work with local attorneys and/or pro se litigants on a variety of cases in a variety of specialty areas. The Health Law Society is creating a fundraising cookbook, and we want your recipes! Be a part of Briefs for the Kitchen: Quick and Healthy Recipes by and for IU Law Students. Send your recipes to liblewis@indiana.edu. Please include estimated prep and cook times, an ingredients list, and instructions. All recipes are welcome (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, dessert, and drinks). Submissions will be accepted from students, faculty, and staff until Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Scheduling Events
All e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
