HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 31
Professor Robert Fischman will introduce the INPIRG program on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.
The Women's Law Caucus is hosting their annual auction at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, at Axis Nightclub.
MONDAY, JANUARY 31
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Slide Show and Discussion
The Indiana Student Public Interest Research Group (INPIRG) and IU Outdoor Adventures will host "The Last Great Wilderness Project," a spectacular multimedia slide show presentation depicting the beauty of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, at 7 p.m. in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union. Our own Professor Robert Fischman, author of The National Wildlife Refuges: Coordinating a Conservation System through Law, will offer opening remarks. The presenters include Lenny Kohm, photojournalist and conservationist; Gerald Nukon, a representative of the area's Gwich'in tribe; and Kim Novick of the Alaska Coalition. The presenters will discuss the impact that oil development would have on one of America's most unique natural treasures.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 1
English Conversation Partners Meeting
The English Conversation Partners will hold a meeting at noon in room 120. The primary purpose of the meeting will be to place groups with conflicting schedules into new groups. The meeting will also serve to recruit new members. All interested JD and LLM students are encouraged to attend. Please direct comments and questions to David Ford at daoford@indiana.edu.

Dean Robel on Summer Judicial Internships
Dean Lauren Robel will give a presentation about summer judicial internships at noon (room TBA). All are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend.
Phi Alpha Delta General Meeting
Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) law fraternity will hold a general membership meeting at 7:30 p.m. in room 125. We will discuss the calendar for the spring semester. Join us at Kilroy's following the meeting for free pizza and bread sticks. ILS General Meeting
The International Law Society (ILS) will hold its first meeting of the semester at noon in room 122. Professor Hannah Buxbaum will be present to discuss this spring's ASIL Conference, which is rapidly approaching. The Jessup International Moot Court Competition will soon be held at the Law School. Members will have the opportunity to sign up for bailiff duties at the competition, which should be a tremendously rewarding experience. Food, as always, will be provided for dues-paying members.

Take It to the Limit: Women's Law Caucus Auction at Axis
How high will you go? Find out at the Women's Law Caucus annual auction, which benefits the Middle Way House and the Protective Order Project. Axis Nightclub doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the auction begins at 6 p.m. Free beer will be served until it runs out. Thereafter, drinks can be purchased from the bar. Come hungry, and plan to dine on Laughing Planet burritos and Domino's pizza. Bring your checkbook, cash, or your ATM card. You might even want to dig under the couch cushion for loose change. Every little bit helps. Door prizes will be awarded. Look for more information about packages in the lobby this week, and get your groups together to plan your bids!

ELS Career Panel: Feb. 8
The Environmental Law Society (ELS) will host a career panel featuring environmental law practitioners and judges at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in room 124.
Alumnus Maurer to Speak about Entrepreneurship: Feb. 8
Michael S. "Mickey" Maurer, a 1967 graduate of the Law School, will give a presentation about entrepreneurship at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Moot Court Room. Maurer, who has recently been appointed president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, is president and CEO of Maurer/Shaw Productions, Inc.; chair of the Board of Directors of The National Bank of Indianapolis, a financial institution he founded in 1993; and chair of the Board of MyStar Communications Corporation and IBJ Corporation, which owns and publishes the Indianapolis Business Journal, Court and Commercial Record, the Indiana Lawyer, and Indianapolis Prime Times. Maurer's career as an attorney and entrepreneur has included cable television, film production, radio broadcasting, newspaper publishing, and banking. In the early 1970s, he was a pioneer in the initial development and operations of cable television systems throughout Indiana and Michigan. In 2001, he established "Mickey's Camp," a charitable endeavor that has raised more than $400,000 for Indiana charities. He is the recipient of numerous awards for professionalism and philanthropy. In 1996, he was inducted into the School of Law's Academy of Law Alumni Fellows.
"Globalization and the Politics of Labor": Feb. 11 and 12
The Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies (IJGLS) will host its 13th annual conference, "Globalization and the New Politics of Labor," on Feb. 11 and 12 in the Faculty Conference Room. The conference will foster attention to crucial issues dealing with labor in an interdisciplinary way, including legal, political, social, and economic analyses. Conference participants will discuss how labor issues are affected by the crosscurrents and pressures of globalization. Specifically, the conference will address how evolving issues in labor, law, and politics are affected by labor and migration, labor and gender, labor and trade agreements, and labor and neo-liberal reform. Conference papers will provide the basis for a symposium issue of the IJGLS. More information is coming soon.
Parents and Partners Day: Feb. 12
The Law School will host Parents and Partners Day all day on Saturday, Feb. 12. The purpose of the program is to provide a special opportunity for families to get together in the context of a day at the Law School. The schedule is forthcoming. In the meantime, for more information, contact Dean Fromm.
NEWS FROM THE FACULTY
Professor Kevin Brown's book, Race, Law and Education in the Post-Desegregation Era, has recently been published by Carolina Academic Press. The book re-examines the Supreme Court's school desegregation jurisprudence and examines the current educational situation of African-American school children in the Post-Desegregation Era.

Last Day to Donate to SLA's Tsunami Relief Fund: Feb. 1
The Student Law Association (SLA) will accept donations for tsunami relief in Southeast Asia until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1. If you would like to make a donation, please e-mail Rachael Clark at rnclark@indiana.edu, Yaru Shi at yarshi@indiana.edu, or any other SLA representative. We accept cash or checks. The SLA sincerely thanks all members of the Law School community for supporting this worthwhile cause.
Housing and Roommate Information
On Monday, Jan. 31, the Housing Board on the ground floor across from the SLA Bookstore will be maintained by the Admissions Office. All information currently posted there will be removed. If you wish to post a housing notice, please submit your information to the Admissions Office in room 230, or e-mail the details to Dani Weatherford at maweathe@indiana.edu. All notices will be included on the housing information list that is sent out from the Admissions Office, posted on our Web site for admitted students, and posted on the board for you. There will be three categories of housing: Fall information (information from area landlords who have units available for the fall), Roommate information (information about students who are looking for roommates to share housing), and Sublet information (information about apartments that are available for summer sublet).
Scheduling Events
All e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
ILA SUBMISSIONS
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Friday at 3 p.m. for inclusion in Monday's edition.
