HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 24
Professor Fred Aman will talk about his recently published book, The Democracy Deficit: Taming Globalization through Law Reform, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at the College Arts & Humanities Institute on 1211 East Atwater Avenue.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 25
ELS Meeting
The Environmental Law Society (ELS) will hold its first meeting of the semester at noon in room 219. We will be discussing spring semester events, including the NAELS Conference, Earth Day, class scheduling, a career panel discussion, and Adopt-a-Trail. Lunch will be provided. The ELRG meeting will immediately follow the ELS meeting.
Women's Law Caucus Meeting
The Women's Law Caucus will meet at noon in room 124 to prepare for the auction scheduled for Feb. 4. Current plans and last-minute preparations will be discussed. Join us, and find out how you can help.
Inmate Legal Assistance Project Meeting
The Inmate Legal Assistance Project (ILAP) will meet at 5:30 p.m. in room 214. The ILAP is a noncredit clinic that provides students with opportunities to research legal issues for inmates at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, Ind. We will be discussing how to get involved with the ILAP in addition to interview protocol and visits to the prison. If you are interested in participating, please join us. We will provide background check forms at the meeting. If you cannot come to the meeting, please pick up a background check form, which can be found in an envelope on the board outside the ILAP (and POP) office in the basement. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26
OWLS and Career Services to Present Job-search and Interview Tips
Older & Wiser Law Students (OWLS) is sponsoring a Career Services presentation on job-searching and interviewing at noon in room 214. Dean Michael Keller will talk about how to highlight previous work experience and how to (or whether to) talk about children and significant others during an interview. This presentation is open to all students. Pizza will be served.
PILF General Meeting
The Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) will hold its first general meeting of the new semester at noon in the Moot Court Room. Topics of conversation will include the Norman Amaker Public Interest Retreat, to be held at Bradford Woods in late February; a clothing drive on Jan. 29; and elections for new board members. Actually, elections will not merely be a topic of conversation, they will be held. Nominations (you can nominate yourself or others) should be e-mailed to Anne Tucker (annmtuck@indiana.edu) by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25. Questions can be addressed to whomever you usually address with questions of the utmost importance. Food, as always, will be provided.

Professor Aman to Give Lecture on The Democracy Deficit
Professor Fred Aman will talk about his recently published book, The Democracy Deficit: Taming Globalization through Law Reform, at 5 p.m. at the College Arts & Humanities Institute on 1211 East Atwater Avenue. Refreshments will be served following Aman's presentation. In The Democracy Deficit, Aman argues that the essence of democracy in the 21st century depends on the ability of citizens to affect the policies that globalization would now seem to dictate. Law, particularly domestic administrative law, has a crucial role to play in this endeavor. Aman, the Roscoe C. O'Byrne Professor of Law and the director of the IU Institute for Advanced Study, has held a Distinguished Fulbright Chair in Trento, Italy, and visiting professorships and fellowships in England, France, and Italy. He is the author of four books and numerous articles on administrative, regulatory, and deregulatory law, and the global economy. For more information about this event, please call 856-1169.

SLA Goods Drive
New winter coat? New coffee maker? Not enough room for your old stuff? The Student Law Association (SLA) is holding a goods drive on Saturday. The SLA will donate your gently used items to Goodwill and the Salvation Army. SLA representatives will be happy to pick up your items for you. Women's Law Caucus Auction: Feb. 4
How high will you go? Last year, the Law School community helped to raise more than $8,000 through the Woman's Law Caucus Auction to benefit local victims of domestic violence. This year, proceeds from the Feb. 4 event will again benefit the Middle Way House of Bloomington and the Law School's Protective Order Project. For the first time, a portion of the proceeds will also fund a scholarship for a law student who will work on furthering the mission of the Women's Law Caucus. Watch the ILA for more information as this fun and worthwhile event approaches. Mark your calendars!
"Globalization and the Politics of Labor": Feb. 11 and 12
The Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies (IJGLS) will host its 13th annual conference, "Globalization and the New Politics of Labor," on Feb. 11 and 12 in the Moot Court Room. The conference will foster attention to crucial issues dealing with labor in an interdisciplinary way, including legal, political, social, and economic analyses. Conference participants will discuss how labor issues are affected by the crosscurrents and pressures of globalization. Specifically, the conference will address how evolving issues in labor, law, and politics are affected by labor and migration, labor and gender, labor and trade agreements, and labor and neo-liberal reform. Conference papers will provide the basis for a symposium issue of the IJGLS. More information, including the list of participants, their topics, and the conference schedule, is coming soon.

Professor Kevin Brown's comment, "After Grutter v. Bollinger: Revisiting the Desegregation Era from the Perspective of the Post-Desegregation Era," was published in 21 Constitutional Commentary 41 (2004).
ANNOUNCEMENTS
SLA Bookstore: "On-hold" Books to Be Shelved Wednesday
All books that are currently on hold in the SLA Bookstore will be put back on the shelf on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Check the schedule on the door or e-mail an SLA representative to purchase your books.
Student Ambassador Volunteers Needed
The Admissions Office is seeking student volunteers to participate in the Student Ambassador Program. As a Student Ambassador, you will give prospective applicants and visitors tours of the school, take them to classes, and answer general questions about the school, program, and community. If you are interested in participating, stop by the Admissions Office in room 230. Scheduling Events
All e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.

The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Friday at 3 p.m. for inclusion in Monday's edition.
