Professor Aman to Give Lecture on The Democracy Deficit Next Thursday
Professor Fred Aman will talk about his recently published book, The Democracy Deficit: Taming Globalization through Law Reform, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at the College Arts & Humanities Institute on 1211 East Atwater Avenue. Refreshments will be served following Aman's presentation. In The Democracy Deficit, Aman argues that the essence of democracy in the 21st century depends on the ability of citizens to affect the policies that globalization would now seem to dictate. Law, particularly domestic administrative law, has a crucial role to play in this endeavor. Aman, the Roscoe C. O'Byrne Professor of Law and the director of the IU Institute for Advanced Study, has held a Distinguished Fulbright Chair in Trento, Italy, and visiting professorships and fellowships in England, France, and Italy. He is the author of four books and numerous articles on administrative, regulatory, and deregulatory law, and the global economy. For more information about this event, please call 856-1169.

For the first time, a portion of the proceeds will also fund a scholarship for a law student who will work on furthering the mission of the Women's Law Caucus. Watch the ILA for more information as this fun and worthwhile event approaches. Mark your calendars!

NEWS FROM THE FACULTY
Professor William Henderson and UCLA law professor Richard Sander recently participated in an online debate on Yale Law School's Legal Affairs Web site. In the debate, Henderson responds to Sander's recent article about the impact of affirmative action on black American law students. Henderson uses many of the insights from his article, The LSAT, Law School Exams, and Meritocracy: The Surprising and Undertheorized Role of Test-Taking Speed, which Sander says is "... the most thoughtful critique of the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) to appear in many years."
