CACR Lecture on Biologically-Based Approaches to Computer Security
The Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR), which is directed by Professor Fred Cate, will be hosting the first of its spring lecture series at the Law School at noon in room 335. Stephanie Forrest, professor of computer science and biology at the University of New Mexico, will present "Biologically Based Approaches to Computer Security." Forrest, a computer immunology expert, will discuss how biological design principles can potentially change the way we engineer, maintain, and evolve large, dynamic software infrastructures. The presentation will highlight recent results in automated diversity and the use of epidemiological approaches to understand and control widespread network-based attacks. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend and to bring a lunch. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.

University Forum on Tsunami Disaster and Humanitarian Response
To examine the earthquake and resulting tsunami that ravaged the coastlines of the Indian Ocean, IU will host an interdisciplinary academic forum at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall, Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. 7th Street. "Indian Ocean Tsunami and Humanitarian Response: A Campus-Community Forum" will include experts on scientific, social, political, and humanitarian aspects of the disaster. Peter Kovach, director of the Office of Press and Public Diplomacy from the State Department's Bureau of Southeast Asia and Pacific Affairs, will be the special guest. Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan, JD'85, and Maria Carrasquillo of the Bloomington Red Cross chapter will join Kovach and IU faculty in a panel discussion. The goal of the forum is to stimulate discussions on the campus and in the community and to motivate contributions for relief efforts. The forum will be followed by a discussion on disaster response and community action. A reception will follow in the IMU Solarium. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Professor Michael Hamburger, Geological Sciences Department, at 855-2934 or at hamburg@indiana.edu. Additional details on the forum and related campus and community events will be posted on https://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/1804.html.
