FIRST ANNUAL SOCCER SHOWDOWN FRIDAY

On Friday, Oct. 10, JD students and international graduate students will face off at the first annual JD/LLM Soccer Showdown. The match, which promises to be a historic Law School event, will begin at 4:30 p.m. on field #1 at Karst Farm Park, located southwest of Bloomington off of State Road 45, on the corner of Airport Road and Endwright Road. Winners will toast their success and losers drown their sorrows at the post-game party for players, students, faculty, and friends, at Upland Brewery, 350 West 11th Street. Professors Bill Henderson and Lisa Farnsworth are freeing up space in their vehicles for those in need of transport to the game. If you'd like a ride, meet them in the parking lot across from the Law School on Indiana Avenue by 4:15 p.m.

LAW SCHOOL UNPLUGGED: ISSUES RESOLVED

For several weeks, access to the IU network via wireless and remote VPN connections suffered due to increased use and a technical difficulty. As of last Friday, Sept. 26., both issues have been resolved. New equipment has been added to increase capacity, and the technical complication has been eliminated. You are now free to roam about the network!

PANEL ADDRESSES PUBLIC POLICY AND PERSONAL BELIEFS TUESDAY NIGHT

The Kelley School of Business and the Commission on Multicultural Understanding (COMU) are co- sponsoring a panel and Q&A session, "The Common Good: Public Policy and Personal Beliefs," from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in room 123. The panel, moderated by the Kelley School's Dean Dan Dalton, will explore how leaders weigh personal values and faith

traditions in decisions that impact the public. Panelists will include Indiana elected policymakers, as well as professionals from Eli Lilly and Co., Anthem Insurance Corp., the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, IU Public Affairs and Government Relations, and Trinity Episcopal Church.

NEWS FROM THE FACULTY

On Sept. 29, at an Indianapolis conference, "The University of Michigan Cases: The Message and Meaning for Affirmative Action," Professor Kevin Brown delivered a talk, "The Supreme Court's University of Michigan Decisions: Background and Critical Issues in the Cases." Brown also moderated a panel discussion, "Implications of the Decisions in the Educational, Business, and Political Arenas." The conference was sponsored by the American Association for Affirmative Action, the Indiana Affirmative Action Association, and the Indiana Industry Liaison Group.

Professor Michael Jenuwine testified on Sept. 29 before the Indiana Commission on Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities to advocate for the special needs of individuals with developmental disabilities in the criminal justice system. Jenuwine discussed three anecdotes of MR/DD adults involved with the criminal justice system, two of which included cases that students worked on with Jenuwine at the Law School's Child Advocacy Clinic.

WORKSHOP FOR LLM STUDENTS TODAY

The Career Services Office is hosting a workshop for LLM students on the topics of cover letters, resumes, and the New York job fair. The workshop will be held at noon on Monday, Oct. 6, in room 120.

BUSINESS AND LAW SOCIETY MEETING TODAY

The Business and Law Society's first meeting of the year will be held at noon on Monday, Oct. 6, in room 122. Plans for this year will be discussed, and officers will be selected. Any student with an interest in business, business law, or related disciplines is invited to attend. WOMEN'S LAW CAUCUS MEETING WEDNESDAY

The Women's Law Caucus will hold its general meeting for October at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in room 120. We will be discussing a number of important topics, including the upcoming Etiquette Dinner, our annual auction, and other events. Your input is needed, so please plan to attend. SJD STUDENT FROM KAZAKHSTAN TO SPEAK AT FIRST ILS MEETING WEDNESDAY

The International Law Society will hold its first general meeting of the year at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in room 122. Free pizza will be available for all in attendance. The ILS will be welcoming SJD student Mukhit Yeleuov, who earned an LLM from the Law School in 2001. Yeleuov will speak about international law in general, as well as law in Kazakhstan. Don't miss the opportunity to hear Yeleuov's presentation and to get to know other JD and international graduate students who are interested in international law. Students who would like to join the ILS can do so at this meeting. The ILS encourages both JD and LLM students to become members.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

LAW SCHOOL HALLOWEEN PARTY OCT. 30

The annual Law School Halloween party and trick-or-treating will start at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 30. The parade will begin at 4:45 p.m. Students and faculty are encouraged to bring their children for the trick-or-treating through the Law School offices, and everyone is invited to come and be a part of the fun and games. Students interested in volunteering to coordinate events should e-mail Professor Michael Jenuwine at mjenuwin@indiana.edu.

SCHEDULING EVENTS

ALL e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non- Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, length of time the room will be needed, classroom requested, and number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

AUDIO - VIDEO SERVICES

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth Plew at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
