CAREER SYMPOSIUM THURSDAY
The third annual Career Symposium will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, in the main lobby. Alumni and attorneys from various fields will be available for informal discussions.

WINE AND CHEESE RECEPTION TUESDAY
The Women's Law Caucus invites all law students, faculty, and staff to join us for our Annual Wine and Cheese Reception at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Faculty Lounge.
GOLF OUTING FRIDAY
There still are spaces available for the golf outing Friday afternoon with alumni, students, and faculty. Sign up at the table in the lobby through Tuesday, Sept. 16, or go directly to the alumni relations office in room 300.
DEBATE ON U.S. PATRIOT ACT NEXT WEEK
The Federalist Society and the American Constitutional Society are hosting a debate and free lunch next week at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Moot Court Room. Professor Fred Cate and Heritage Institute Scholar Paul Rosenzweig will discuss the U.S.
Patriot Act, including its provisions, its goals, and its potential impact on individual freedom and security. See you there!
PRESENTATION ON INTERNATIONAL LAW CAREERS NEXT WEEK
Professor Rumu Sarkar from Georgetown University Law Center will speak about career opportunities in International Law at 9:55 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Moot Court Room. Sarkar will speak generally about opportunities with U.S. government agencies, multilateral organizations, NGOs, law firms with international practices, and consulting firms. Sarkar teaches LLM and JD students at Georgetown and has worked for private law firms, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and consulting firms. Sarkar will answer questions following the presentation.
NEWS FROM THE FACULTY
The School of Law community extends congratulations to Professor Fred Aman, who has been appointed director of the Institute for Advanced Studies at the IU Bloomington campus. Aman will continue to teach part time at the Law School.
Professor Kevin Brown's article entitled "Reexamination of the Benefit of Publicly Funded Private Education for African-American Students in a Post-Desegregation Era" was published in 36 Indiana Law Review 479 (2003).

RESUMES AND COVER LETTERS WORKSHOP TUESDAY
Career Services will host "Resumes & Cover Letters" at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in room 122.
COPIER, FAX MACHINE, AND PRINTER USE
A reminder to all students: The copier, fax machine, and printer in the Career Services Office are primarily for the use of the CSO staff, but we are happy to make them available for student use when the office is not using them. Students are welcome to use the copier, fax machine, and printer for employment-related materials only. If a piece of equipment is out of paper, toner, etc., please tell Bruce Farrand, rather than servicing it yourself. Thank you!

WOMEN'S LAW CAUCUS MEETING WEDNESDAY
The Women's Law Caucus will be having an organizational meeting at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in room 120. Light refreshments will be served. All law students are welcome to attend.
POP TRAINING SESSION SATURDAY
The Protective Order Project will have its annual training session for new volunteers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, in room 121. Lunch will be provided! Attendance is mandatory for new volunteers and encouraged for returning volunteers.

Professional sessions for 1Ls will be held at noon on Monday, Sept. 15, and Monday, Sept. 22, in the Moot Court Room.
2004 JESSUP INTERNATIONAL LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION APPLICATIONS DUE WEDNESDAY
Applications for this year's Jessup team are due at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 17. Please see Professor Hannah Buxbaum, team coach and faculty adviser, for more information. Submit your application, statement of interest, and resume to Dean Fromm in room 024.
FACULTY COMMITTEE APPLICATIONS DUE THURSDAY
Students who are interested in being considered for nomination by the Student Law Association to a faculty committee must submit applications to the SLA office or to room 024 by Thursday, Sept. 18. Information about the committees is posted on various bulletin boards around the school.
IT'S A BOY!
Tim Hightower from the development office welcomed a new addition to the family last week. Kenneth Addison Hightower was born at 9:03 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and measuring 20 inches. Tim, Christina, baby, Zoie, and Emery are all doing well. Congratulations to the Hightower family!
STUDENT AMBASSADOR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Admissions Office is seeking student volunteers to participate in the Student Ambassador Program. As a student ambassador, you will give prospective applicants and visitors tours of the school, take them to class, and answer general questions about the school, program, and community. GRADUATION MEETING FOR THIRD-YEAR STUDENTS NEXT WEEK
A graduation meeting for all 3Ls will be held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in room 121.
CONFERENCE ON CHILDREN, MENTAL HEALTH, AND THE LAW NEXT WEEK
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, leaders from the legal community, the health field, and the legislature will meet in Indianapolis to discuss legal issues concerning children with mental illness. The Indiana State Bar Association's Civil Rights of Children Committee, Children's Law Center, and the American Bar Association's Juvenile Justice Center are sponsoring this seminar. Attorneys can obtain 6 CLE hours and mental health professionals can obtain 6 CEU hours. Law School and other university students are also encouraged to attend. The cost for students is only $50.

The purpose of "Children, Mental Health, and the Law: Breaking Barriers to Care" is to educate members of the bar, mental health professionals, and the public on the complexity of the legal issues, the resources available, and how to best use those resources. The program is also designed to explore public policy initiatives and funding sources. The ultimate goal is to better serve the children of Indiana who suffer from mental illness.
Specific topics on the program's agenda include mental health and kids in court, overcoming obstacles to meeting children's mental health needs, understanding and using mental health assessments in court, and overcoming legislative barriers and funding constraints to improve access to services.
