GRADUATION PARTY FRIDAY NIGHT

The Law School invites all graduating students to spend the evening in the library. Not to study, of course, but to celebrate the passing of those long hours in the stacks. Leave your books behind and bring yourself and your family to the Law Library for free beer, wine, soda, food, and jazz. The party starts at 8 p.m. and runs 'til midnight on Friday, May 9. At approximately 10 p.m., the winners of class awards will be announced.

GRADUATION CEREMONIES SATURDAY

Congratulations to all graduating law students! The School of Law is scheduled in the first session of the Indiana University Commencement ceremony, which will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, in Assembly Hall.

Following the IU commencement ceremony, a luncheon reception will be held for all Law School graduates and their families from 11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the Bloomington Convention Center on 302 South College Ave. Tickets are required. Food will be served buffet style. Parking is available immediately south of the building on College Ave. A professional photographer will be available for pictures.

The Law School will hold its special graduation ceremony at 3 p.m. in the IU Auditorium. Doors open at 2:15 p.m. The program will last until approximately 4:45 p.m. Dean Robel will preside over the ceremony. Justice Frank Sullivan will present the keynote speech, and graduating student Lakshmi Hasanadka will be the student speaker.

NEWS FROM THE FACULTY

Professor Kevin Brown's comment, "African-Americans Within the Context of International Oppression," has been published by the Temple International Comparative Law Journal. On April 22, Brown delivered a paper entitled "Diversity in the Context of American Society" to faculty and students at the National Law School of India University in Bangalore, India.

Professor Marshall Leaffer presented a paper at Fordham University's annual conference, "International Intellectual Law and Policy." His paper was entitled "The International Trademark System and the Erosion of American Legal Culture."

On May 1, Professor Seth Lahn moderated a public debate attended by Justice Theodore Boehm of the Indiana Supreme Court and about 50 other members of the bench and bar. The debate centered around the question of whether Indiana should amend its Rules of Professional Conduct to cover mandatory attorney-malpractice insurance. Ohio, Illinois, New Hampshire, Virginia, and several other states have either recently adopted or are considering such rules. As a result of the debate, the Indiana State Bar Association House of Delegates will consider this fall whether Indiana should adopt a rule similar to the one proposed last year by the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Client Protection. This rule requires a lawyer to disclose to each client that the lawyer carries less than certain minimum professional-liability coverage. If approved by the House of Delegates, the proposed rule will be sent to the Indiana Supreme Court for review.

STUDENT NEWS

First-year student Nicholas Capezza has been recommended to the student body president for nomination to the Student Body Supreme Court of Indiana University as an associate justice. Capezza will be presented to the IU Student Association Congress for approval in early fall.

TO THE CLASS OF 2003: CONGRATULATIONS!

Tim Hightower, Catherine Dyar, Brian Kearney, and Catherine Stafford of the Office of Alumni Relations and Development would like to send all of our newest alumni our very best wishes. Your paths will lead you in different directions. Some classmates you will see often, some occasionally, and some just a few times here and there over the years. The common thread for all of you will be your IU School of Law.

The Law School's Web site now has a directory of all alumni, and you will soon be added to it. Submitting your accurate, permanent information for inclusion in this directory will allow you to find your friends and colleagues, and vice versa. If you know where you will be permanently located following graduation, please give this information to Teresa Barnett, our alumni and development office administrator. You can call Teresa at 855-9700, e-mail her at tebarnet@indiana.edu, or just stop by the office in room 300. Updating your records at this time is critical to our ability to stay in touch with you. Please give us your new, permanent information so that we may keep you up-to-date on your professors, Law School events, and other special occasions at your alma mater. APPLICATIONS FOR MOOT COURT COMPETITION DUE FRIDAY

Applications for the 2003-2004 Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition are now available. Please check your student mailbox. Applications are due Friday, May 9, and can be placed in the envelope on the Moot Court Office door.

SCHEDULING EVENTS

ALL e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non- Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, length of time room will be needed, classroom requested and number of people attending event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

AUDIO - VIDEO SERVICES

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
