LEE HAMILTON AT CHANCELLOR'S FORUM WEDNESDAY

Former U.S. Representative Lee Hamilton will give a presentation at the Chancellor's Forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, in the Moot Court Room.

FCLJ PANEL DISCUSSION ON MEDIA ACCESS TO EXECUTIONS THURSDAY

In celebration of its 10th year of publication, the Federal Communications Law Journal is hosting the third in a four-part speaker series. A panel discussion regarding media access to executions will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, in the Moot Court Room. There will be a reception in the Student Lounge immediately following the discussion. Panelists will include John Bessler (JD'91), author of Death in the Darkness: Midnight Executions in America; Ian Marquand, chair of the Society of Professional Journalists National Freedom of Information; Diana Penner, Indianapolis Star staff reporter and witness to the McVeigh execution; and Professor Trevor Brown, dean of the IU School of Journalism. Professor Joe Hoffmann will moderate the panel discussion.

Next week, adjunct Professor Robert Meitus (JD'00) and Rick Gevers, a talent agent for broadcast journalists, will discuss entertainment law for the fourth presentation in the FCJL series at noon on Monday, March 31.

WALLACE TEACHING AWARD AND PILF AWARD CEREMONY THURSDAY

The Wallace Teaching Award and PILF Award presentations will take place at noon on Thursday, March 27, in the lobby. Light refreshments will be available.

PRESENTATION ON LAW, LIBERTY, AND INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY FRIDAY

The School of Journalism is sponsoring "The Role of the Citizen in a System of Law," a talk by Professor Susan Dente Ross from the Washington State University Edward R. Murrow School of Communication, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, in Ernie Pyle Hall room 214. Ross will discuss the lessons history and the law provide about whether and how we, as citizens, can advance the rule of law and protect human rights in an era of repression and fear.

TALK ON GOVERNING AUTHORITY AND THE CORPORATE CLASS FRIDAY

Karen Coulter and Mike Ferner of the Program on Corporations, Law, and Democracy (POCLAD) will give a presentation entitled "Wresting Governing Authority from the Corporate Class," at noon on Friday, March 28, in the Moot Court Room.

PARENTS AND PARTNERS DAY SATURDAY

The Law School will hold its annual Parents and Partners Day all day on Saturday, March 29. The purpose of the program is to provide a special opportunity for families to get together in the context of a day at the Law School. Schedule is forthcoming. For more information, contact Dean Fromm.

FACULTY PRESENTATION NEXT WEEK: "DO LAW STUDENTS LEARN ANYTHING?"

A series of presentations by faculty members about their current research continues next week. Professor Alex Tanford will give a presentation entitled, "Do Law Students Learn Anything? The Use of Interdisciplinary Education in Appellate Litigation" at noon on Wednesday, April 2.

Upcoming faculty research presenters will include Professors David Fidler, Hannah Buxbaum, Yvonne Cripps, and Kevin Brown.

NEWS FROM THE FACULTY

Professor Jeannine Bell recently presented a paper at the first annual Solon International Hate Crimes Conference in Nottingham, England. The conference was sponsored by the law school at Nottingham-Trent University. Attended by five American delegates and many academics, practitioners, and activists from across Europe, the conference focused mainly on the legal and social responses to racist, anti-gay and anti-lesbian, and anti-Semitic violence.

On March 15, 2003, Professor Bell was a featured author at the 10th Annual King County Library Association's Literary Lions Award Dinner in Bellevue, Washington.

IBA "MEET THE LAWYERS" TUESDAY

The Indianapolis Bar Association is holding "Meet the Lawyers Night" on Tuesday, March 25, in Indianapolis. Interested students should contact Dean Kearney before 4 p.m. on Monday, March 24.

REGISTRATION DATES FOR SUMMER AND FALL

Registration for summer courses will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, and Wednesday, March 26, in the Recorder's Office. Check your mailboxes for the complete 2003 summer session schedule. Registration for current 2L and all international students for fall 2003 courses will take place on Monday, April 7. Registration for current 1L students for fall 2003 will take place on Wednesday, April 9.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ASSOCIATION CHOOSES NEW LEADERS

The Intellectual Property Association has chosen its new leadership for the 2003-2004 year. Congratulations are extended to President Katie Dunbar, Vice President Rob Svoboda, and Secretary Blaire Henley.

2003 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LAW WRITING COMPETITION

The Computer Law Association at Marquette University and the Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review are sponsoring a writing competition for student papers on information technology law topics. The writer of the winning paper will receive $250. Two other papers will be honored. A flyer containing the complete rules is available at http://www.cla.org/2003%20CLA%20writing%20competition.pdf. Specific questions should be directed to Professor Eric Goldman at eric.goldman@marquette.edu.

ALL e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non- Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, length of time room will be needed, classroom requested and number of people attending event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
