ROBEL APPOINTED ACTING DEAN

IUB Chancellor Sharon Brehm has announced that Lauren Robel will become the acting dean of the Law School on July 1, when current Dean Fred Aman steps down from that position. FORMER WHITE HOUSE COUNSEL TO VISIT LAW SCHOOL APRIL 10

Beth Nolan, former counsel to President Clinton, will give a talk at the Law School on Wednesday, April 10, at noon in the Moot Court Room. The title of her talk is "Inventing Your Future, Reinventing My Past: Life with the American Constitution Society;" the new IU Law student chapter of that organization is sponsoring her visit. Before becoming counsel to Clinton in 1999, Nolan had served in a number of other capacities in his administration, including associate counsel to the president and deputy assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel. She had previously been a professor at George Washington University, teaching constitutional law and professional responsibility.

NEWS FROM STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

PILF WORKADAY FUNDRAISER APRIL 1 12

PILF is conducting its annual Workaday fundraiser, everyday from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the lobby from April 1 through April 12. Students with paid summer positions are asked to pledge a day's worth of wages, which will be collected at the next academic year. These donations help to fund PILF Summer Fellowships, which are awarded to students that are selected by a committee, and are working in unpaid public interest summer positions. We also welcome smaller donations. Please stop by the table and give a donation; there will also be baked goods available everyday!

NEWS FROM INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

ALUMNI NEWS: XU SHAN

Xu Shan, who recently completed her LLM, has been accepted as an intern by the legal department of the World Bank. Shan (known to most here as Susan) is the first LLM student from IU in recent memory to earn this honor. Former World bank employee and current World Bank consultant, Clifford J. Garstang, JD '84, and Hyun Choi, 2L, who was an intern in the department last summer, also were instrumental in helping Shan secure this internship. Shan is a finalist for an IU International Enhancement Grant to help support this internship.

PAPARAZZO ALERT!

On Tuesday, April 9, and Thursday, April 11, photographer Melissa McReynolds will be haunting the halls of the Law School taking pictures for use in the admissions bulletin and other publications. Any cooperation in the way of looking happy to be here would be very much appreciated, but of, course, if you do not wish to be photographed, you have only to tell her so.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT NEEDED

Visiting Professor Steven Heyman seeks a research assistant to work 10 to 15 hours per week during the summer, to assist with a law review article on freedom of expression for an upcoming symposium on law and the "culture wars." Research will range from the idea of rights in American constitutional history to the contemporary debate over obscenity and pornography. Students with an interest or background in history, philosophy, political and social theory, or women's studies are especially encouraged to apply. ATTENTION, GRADUATING STUDENTS!

Believe it or not, it is time to begin the planning for the graduation display for the lobby. As we have done in the past, we want to do a collage of pictures, memorabilia and clippings regarding your three years of law school. We have already gathered a few things, but the real source of such items is all of you. We will return all the items to you following graduation. Here is what we would like to include:

Pictures (students, events, weddings, children) depicting some aspect of your lives while law students.

Memorabilia including law school tee shirts, cups, posters from events that occurred during the three years. Plaques, trophies or awards won can be included.

Clippings from any newspaper article about you, a fellow third year, or the law school during the three years. These can be local paper clippings or from your hometown. Be sure to include what newspaper the article is from and the date of the article.

Anything that has significance to you, will fit in the display case, and is in reasonably good taste can be included.

Please get these items to us as soon as possible. Each item must have a completed form attached that includes your name and the address where you want it returned. You can pick up these forms at the Reference Desk or in the Library Office. For pictures, include who or what it is, and what year it was taken. All comments or reminiscences must be signed, although we will not necessarily use your name in the display. We reserve the right to omit any item if needed.

GIVE ITEMS TO THE LIBRARIANS IN THE REFERENCE OFFICE OR TO THE ASSISTANT TO THE LAW LIBRARY DIRECTOR. To insure that we have all the necessary information to return the items, do not just leave them in the office or at the Circulation Desk.

EVENTS CALENDAR / ROOM SCHEDULING

To schedule classrooms in the law building, send e-mail to bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl- events-law@ exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include date and time of event, length of time room will be needed, classroom requested and number of people attending event. Requests should be sent at least one week prior to event and include name of person requesting, organization planning the event and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail.

AUDIO - VIDEO SERVICES

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
