NEWS FROM STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
SPEA JOINT DEGREE MEETING
Are you searching for alternatives to working at a private law firm? Are you one of the many law students who do not want to use your law degree to practice law? Are you interested in shaping public policy, working at a government agency, or practicing environmental law?
Come learn about the joint degree program offered with the School of Public & Environmental Affairs (SPEA) on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at noon in room 122. Faculty from SPEA and the Law School as well as joint degree students will discuss the benefits of earning a joint degree. There will be representatives from both the Master of Public Affairs program and the Master of Science in Environmental Science program. This is a great opportunity to learn how to broaden your horizons beyond law school not to mention the FREE PIZZA!
POP PRESENTS SELF DEFENSE 101
The Protective Order Project presents "Self Defense 101." On Oct. 20, at 11:00 a.m., come to the Law School lounge to learn the basics of self defense. RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE ON HALLOWEEN
The IU School of Law/ Red Cross Blood Drive is on Oct. 31. This year, because the event is being held on Hallowe'en, a Vampire Raffle is being held. In order to enter to win one of dozens of prizes, including a $300 Seiko watch from GoldCasters, a pair of 14 kt. gold earrings from Victor Settle, or $5 and $10 gift certificates for local shops and restaurants, you only have to donate a pint of blood. The Law School organization whose membership donates the most pints (per capita) will have a special happy hour hosted for them by Nick's English Hut. Faculty and staff can donate as well, and can designate an organization to help the competition along. Look for posters listing the prizes and sponsors. Later, there will be sign up sheets for scheduling donation times for your convenience. In these troubled times, let's all do what we can to help others in need. Giving blood means giving life.
3LS NEEDED AS JUDGES
Want to judge a competition? 3Ls are needed to judge the 6th District "We the People" competition. The high school competition will be held on November 12 at Center Grove High School. The middle school competition is November 19 at Butler. You will be paid for mileage and a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Also, if any 3L's are available on December 19, we have been asked to provide judges for the state elementary school competition in Indianapolis. Lodging and meals will be provided. This is a great opportunity to give something back to the community and encourage young people to be better citizens and perhaps future lawyers. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Kaarin Stahl (kamstahl@indiana.edu) as soon as possible.
