EVENTS & LECTURES
GLOBALIZATION AND AFRICA: PANEL DISCUSSION WEDNESDAY
BLSA and ILS will present a panel discussion on globalization and its effects on Africa. Topics to be discussed include globalization generally, AIDS, infectious diseases, and developmental initiatives. Panelists include Dean Aman, Professor Brown, and Professor Fidler. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Noon in the Moot Court Room.
ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER FROM CHICAGO HERE THURSDAY
The Sports and Entertainment Law Society will hold a brown bag discussion with entertainment lawyer Heather Nelson. Ms. Nelson, an entertainment lawyer with a private practice in Chicago, will be sharing her experiences with interested students on Thursday, March 1, at noon. The event will be held in the Law School at a location to be determined this week (look for flyers with the room number). SELS membership is not necessary to attend; this event is open to anyone with an interest in the field of entertainment law.
NFL LABOR RELATIONS COUNSEL: SPORTS LAW DISCUSSION THURSDAY
On Thursday, March 1, the Sports and Entertainment Law Society will be hosting a discussion with Indiana University School of Law Alumnus Rapheal Prevot. Mr. Prevot, the labor relations counsel for the National Football League, plans to talk about sports law. The discussion is open to everyone and will take place at 4:00 p.m. in Room 122 of the Law School.
UPCOMING JLAP "DRUNK & DISORDERLY" OFFERS OHIO CLE CREDIT
Foster Inn of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, in cooperation with Indiana Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program, presents Drunk & Disorderly II: Character, Fitness, Discipline & Ethics. Tuesday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. The speakers are : Donald R. Lundberg, Executive Secretary of the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission, will discuss prosecution of disciplinary charges; Kevin P. McGoff, a leading disciplinary defense counsel in Indianapolis, will discuss defense against disciplinary charges; Susan B. Eisenhauer, JLAP Executive Director, will discuss how JLAP can help lawyers and law students in distress; and Terry L. Harrell, JLAP Clinical Director, will discuss alcoholism, addiction, depression, stress, and other mental health issues.
Each speaker will present for 10-15 minutes, and then all will take questions from the floor. There will be fruit, cookies, brownies and coffee. CATS, Bloomington's cable access channel, will tape the event for its programming rotation. For those applying to the Ohio state bar, please note that this program will provide attendees with a 1-hour CLE credit for Alcohol Education in Ohio.

PETERS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE
Applications are now available in room 024 for the Glenn D. Peters Law School Scholarship Fund. Applicants must be permanent residents of the Northern District of Indiana for the United States District Court. This basically means north of Indianapolis. While financial need can be a factor, greater weight is assigned to academic achievement and involvement in quality extra curricular activities. Application Deadline is June 1, 2001.
PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL LAWYERS: Graduating Student Opportunity
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers graduating students the opportunity to gain insight into the structure and function of German law during an 8 month study/practical training visit to Germany. German fluency is required, although the first two months of the program involves special instruction in German legal terminology and introduction to German Law. The scholarship includes tuition, a monthly stipend, a travel subsidy and health insurance. The deadline is MARCH 1, even though we just received it. An application can be downloaded directly from www.daad.org or obtained from Room 024 (Dean Fromm's office).
SNYDER SCHOLAR APPLICATIONS DUE
Dr. Earl A. Snyder, an alumnus of Indiana University School of Law and Cambridge University, has generously provided support for a student (current 2L or 3L) from Indiana University to work at the Research Centre for International Law of Cambridge University during the fall of 2001 (September through November). A current 2L, if selected, would need to take a leave of absence for the fall semester.
Mr. Snyder will provide air fare, housing, meal allowance, and a small stipend. The Centre contemplates that the Snyder Scholar will be in residence for about three months and will either participate in an ongoing project of the Centre or be assigned a project of his or her own. Because the Centre expects the Snyder Scholar to work on an international law project, APPLICANTS MUST HAVE HAD INTERNATIONAL LAW OR EQUIVALENT COURSES. The Snyder Scholar should also be committed to further study of or practice in international law. Demonstrating a commitment can be done by listing courses taken in the international law area, research in international law topics, employment in the international arena, knowledge of languages, career goals, extracurricular activities and so on.
Applicants should provide the following:
1)a resume; and
2)a statement of commitment to international law and personal research agenda.
Return your completed applications to Dale Calabrese in Room 024 by Monday, Feb. 26. The preliminary selection committee will be comprised of faculty. The final selection will be made by Mr. Lauterpacht, Cambridge University professor and one of the premier lawyers on the international front, in late March or early April. APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR LONDON 2002 AND EXCHANGE PROGRAMS
The deadline for priority for our study abroad opportunities for next year is Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 5:00 p.m. If you have misplaced the information sheet on the application process, pick one up in Room 024. Questions to Dale or Dean Fromm.
FAFSA RENEWAL
It's that time again! If you are planning to be a student for the 2001-2002 academic year, you need to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2001, to apply for federal financial aid. If you have your federal Personal Identification Number, or PIN, you may file a Renewal FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. "Renewal" means your information from filing last year will be presented to you on-line to update, rather than filing from scratch. If you do not have your federal PIN, which serves as your electronic signature, you may file a 2001-2002 FAFSA either on-line (you'll print a signature page to return) or by using a paper form. To have your data sent to IU Bloomington, please use School Code #001809.
NEW THIS YEAR: You will receive an e-mail confirmation from the FAFSA Processor once you file the FAFSA on-line. Filing on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov is still the fastest and least error-prone way to file. If you have already tried to file on-line but have been frustrated by poor response time, a report recently stated that the FAFSA Processor has doubled capacity as of Jan. 5, 2001, so it should work better now. You do need to have your federal tax information from 2000 available to complete the FAFSA, but you do not have to have filed your taxes yet.
PERKINS LOANS
The March 1 date is especially important if you want to apply for a Perkins Loan. There is limited funding so only those who apply by March 1 are considered. In addition, you must have borrowed on the Perkins loan previously to be awarded.
PARENTS & PARTNERS DAY
On Saturday, March 3, students will have a chance to give their near and dear a taste of life at the Law School. Faculty will conduct classes specifically for partners and parents of law student, hold make-up classes at which guests are welcome, and give lectures on topics of interest to the laity. Look for more details in next week's ILA.
LOAN DEBT MANAGEMENT SESSION
On Wednesday, March 21, at Noon, in the Moot Court Room, Melanie Turner, our Financial Aids Administrator, will conduct a helpful session on Federal Loan Debt Management. Although this program is especially directed to graduating seniors, second year students may be interested in attending as well. Included in her session will be information about the process of repaying federal loans, repayment options available with examples, loan consolidation, loan deferment and forbearance options, cancellation provisions, getting your own repayment guide, and how to access individual federal loan amounts on-line.
HONOR, GLORY, MONEY!!
Dust off that seminar paper or that law journal note or perhaps even a moot court brief! There likely is some writing contest in the country that awaits your submission. Take a look at the bulletin board across the hallway from room 024 for descriptions of many of these contests. However, there is a Web site dedicated to collecting all of these, at: http://www.people.memphis.edu/~law/. Many of our former law students have won prizes, one for $4,000!!! A little extra work on your part could be profitable.

NEWS FROM THE RECORDER'S OFFICE
Written approvals from faculty for B600, Directed Reading, B706, Research, and B710, Independent Clinical Project are due for the II Semester 2000-2001. Approval forms are on the bookshelf in Room 022.
Indiana Bar applications for the July 2001 exam are ready for distribution and the mailing deadline is April 1, 2001.
Tentative May and August 2001 graduates taking out-of-state bar examinations need to submit dean's certificates for graduation verification to Jeanne Brown in the Recorder's Office.

SINGING FOR SUMMER SALARIES PILF FUNDRAISER
How better to repay one of our esteemed professors for the fun we had last semester than to choose them to serenade the entire law school? For the next two weeks, there will be jars with the professors' names on them in the lobby during lunch. Just drop whatever money you can spend into the jar of the professor you would most like to see sing to us and leave your suggestions for the song. The professor with the most money in their jar on Feb. 27 will have to stand in the front of the Moot Court room and sing whatever song we have chosen. All we have to do is come and watch. All the money raised becomes PILF Summer Fellowships and goes directly back to our classmates who are interested in low paying public interest careers and have chosen to take non-paying, or low-paying public interest positions for the summer. Donate your cash, enjoy the show, and support PILF!
