FINAL ROUNDS OF THE SHERMAN MINTON MOOT COURT COMPETITION
GREAT ORALISTS IN ACTION
The Final Rounds of the 1998-1999 Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition will continue this week. Quarterfinal Rounds are scheduled for March 1-2 at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. both days; Semifinal Rounds are scheduled for March 3 at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; and the Final Championship Round will be held on Thursday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. All arguments will be held in the Moot Court Room.
Among the judges scheduled to hear student arguments during the Final Round on Thursday, March 4, are: Judge Michael Kanne, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit; Justice Frank Sullivan and Justice Theodore Boehm of the Indiana Supreme Court; and Judge John Sharpnack of the Indiana Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.
The arguments are open to any student who has not advanced in the competition. Please show your support by attending. It is a great opportunity to observe some excellent oralists in action.
FORMER HEAD OF NLRB VISITS
LABOR LAW AND POLITICS
William B. Gould IV, former Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, will present the 1999 Ralph F. Fuchs Lecture at the Law School on Tuesday, March 9. All students and faculty are invited to attend. Gould will speak on the topic "Labor Law and Politics at the Labor Board: Ruminations of a Former Chairman" at noon in the Moot Court Room (Room 123).
Gould was named to Ebony magazine's 100+ Most Influential Black Americans list for 1992, 1997, and 1998. He is a graduate of the Cornell Law School and has been Professor of Law at Stanford since 1972. Gould was nominated by President Clinton as Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board in June 1993 and was sworn into office on March 7, 1994. He served in this post until August 27, 1998. Prior to joining Stanford in 1972, Gould was Assistant General Counsel of the United Auto Workers in Detroit; attorney for the NLRB in Washington, DC; represented management in labor law firm matters with Battle, Fowler, Stokes & Kheel in New York City; professor of law at Wayne State Law School; and visiting professor at Howard Law School in Washington, DC.

NATIONAL BLACK LAW STUDENTS ASSOCIATION MIDWEST REGION
Once again IU comes on strong with leadership at the 31st Annual NBLSA Convention in Chicago, February 10-13. Two 1L delegates continued the legacy of IU's holding board appointments: Kenya L. "KL" Newhouse was elected as the 1999-2000 Midwest Regional Director (serving 44 law schools and 12 states), and Colette M. Savage was appointed as the Community Service Chair. Many kudos and thanks to the two IU members rotating off the Midwest Regional Board for their dedication and labor over the course of this past year, as they represented IU, NBLSA, and our BLSA Chapter well: Janene K. Wilson (3L) and Connie C. Davis (2L).

NEW FEMINIST GROUP
MEETING AND ELECTIONS
The newly formed feminist law group will meet Tuesday, March 2, at 12:15 p.m. in Room 124. At that time, we will hear presentations by those running for office, and vote on the organization's constitution and officers. Anyone interested in being part of an organization with a feminist voice committed to addressing issues faced by women in law school and the legal profession is welcome.

LAW PROFESSORS AND STUDENTS FIGHT SOLOMON AMENDMENT
Join Dean Robel and OutLaw in the nationwide letter writing campaign to fight the coercive effects of the Solomon Amendment. The Solomon Amendment forces schools to choose between its own nondiscrimination policy and federal financial aid for law students. Tables will be set up in the Law School Lobby from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3; Monday, March 8; and Tuesday, March 9. Come join the effort of urging our Representatives to repeal the Solomon Amendment.

FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE
Fellowship applications for students working in public interest fields this summer are now on line (under PILF's homepage). There are also a few hard copies on reserve. You must be a PILF member to apply. All applications are due March 29, 1999.
Career Services will be coming to speak to us at the next general meeting regarding public interest information, databases, and job hunting assistance. Also, we will conduct a "Pizza - Get to Know Fellow PILF Members" activity. Stay tuned for date and room announcements!

NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS MOOT COURT TEAM BRINGS HOME HONORS
The Federal Communications Law Journal sent a team to compete in the National Telecommunications Moot Court Competition at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., on February 20 and 21. The IU team, consisting of Reid Cox, Meggan Frye, and Jim Snyder (all 2Ls), and coached by Craig Riegler (3L), performed exceptionally well. After advancing to the national semi-final round, IU was eliminated by Georgetown, the eventual competition winner, by just two points in a divided 2-1 panel. The IU team also won the Best Brief at the competition.
The team especially wants to thank Craig for all his help and support over the past several months of preparation. In addition, the team wants to send out a special thank you to all of the professors, practitioners, and students who sat as judges for the practice panels: Professors Fred Cate and Steve Johnson, Judge Clayton Miller, and students Mick Tuesley, Aaron Goldberger, Jeremy Hill, Jennifer Thomas, Lori Robbins, Steve Rich, and Craig Riegler. The team also sends thanks to Professors Craig Bradley and Fred Cate for their valuable advice. Finally, the team thanks the FCLJ for its support.

The Seventh Circuit ABA/LSD Spring Conference will take place in Indianapolis March 12-14 at the Radisson Hotel City Centre.
