ELS HOSTS NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND POLICY CONFERENCE

Volunteer to help out with the National Association of Environmental Law Societies (NAELS) Conference. This interdisciplinary conference takes place February 25-27, 1999, at the IMU (Friday) and at the Law School (Saturday). The NAELS Conference promises an impressive list of speakers and a wide range of topics. We need a lot of help with this event, which draws law students from all over the country. Signups are currently posted on the door of the ELS/PILF Office. Questions? E-mail rozpark or call 323-1780.

Professor Daniel O. Conkle is participating in a Symposium entitled "State and Federal Religious Liberty Legislation: Is It Necessary? Is It Constitutional? Is It Good Policy?" The symposium is being held on February 8 at the Cardozo School of Law in New York City.

TRANSCRIPTS AND GRADE PERCENTILE TABLES

Updated transcripts and grade percentile tables reflecting the fall semester grades will be available in our office on Friday, February 12. Grade percentiles are not prepared for first-year students until the end of the spring semester.

INDIANA STATE BAR EXAM APPLICATIONS

Applications will be available in our office on Wednesday, February 10.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW SOCIETY
"A CIVIL ACTION" AND DISCUSSION

ELS is taking a trip to the theater Thursday, February 11, to see the 4:50 p.m. matinee of "A Civil Action." Come out to Showplace Cinema, get your ticket, and meet inside the theater, near the food concessions, at about 4:30 p.m., so we can all sit together. After the movie, we will meet in the Hump Room at Nick's at about 7:15 p.m. to chat about the movie, the book, and the case. Discussion will be led by Professors Applegate and Robel. If you've already seen the movie or read the book but still want to join in on the discussion, you are welcome to meet us at Nick's even if you don't go to the matinee. Questions, or if you need a ride to the theater, contact Sasha Engle (smengle; 331-7998).

SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT LAW SOCIETY
BROWN BAG MEETING

The Sports & Entertainment Law Society will present a brown bag talk with Mr. Jack Swarbrick on Sports and Communications Law. Mr. Swarbrick is a partner in the Indianapolis firm of Baker & Daniels, president of JBSports, a sports management and marketing company, and has represented clients including U.S.A. Gymnastics, U.S. Swimming, and the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games. This event will be Monday, February 15 at noon in Room 120 of the Law School. Bagels, cream cheese, and drinks will be provided.

DIVERSITY ISSUES IN THE CLASSROOM

Students: concerned about teaching at the Law School? The Teaching Committee will be showing "Teaching to the Whole Class," a brief video about diversity issues in the classroom, on Tuesday, February 9, at noon in Room 214. Join us for the video and discussion. If you need more information, contact Rebecca Kreisher (1L).

HB1055: PETITION DRIVE
STOP ENACTMENT OF HB1055

The ACLU-IU Student Chapter and OUTLAW invite the entire community to join us in a petition drive to stop the enactment of HB1055. This bill, introduced by Rep. Woody Burton, prohibits any homosexual from serving as a parent in the foster care system and prohibits homosexuals from adopting children.

Tables will be set up in the Law School Lobby and in the IU Memorial Union on Thursday and Friday, February 11 and 12. If you are not sure where you stand on the issue, we welcome the opportunity to discuss these matters with you. If Thursday and Friday are inconvenient for you, contact us directly, and we'll come to you.

This is one of those rare occasions where a couple minutes of your time will make a tremendous difference in our government. Please take the time to stop by. Thank you.

NO SMOKING/SMOKING POLICY

This is the usual reminder of our policy regarding smoking. Smoking is limited to the outside patio area on the southeast side of the Law School, accessed by the door across from the main entrance to the library and adjacent to the central stairwell door.

In consideration of others, smokers are reminded that smoking is not permitted in the vicinity of the main entrance to the school. Also, smokers seem to have forgotten that smoking outside the student lounge entrance is particularly troublesome, since the large intake vent in that covered area draws the smoke into the Law Library.
