Orientation
Fall classes will begin on Tuesday, August 19, with mandatory in-person orientation for all entering students (including international students) Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, August 13, 14, and 15 from approximately 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. There will be some online components to complete ahead of the in-person sessions. Sessions include introductions, case reading and briefing, networking with your practice group advisors, career choices, and professionalism. Be sure to check the 2025-2026 Academic Calendar for other important dates.
We recommend that you arrive in Bloomington at least a week before orientation so that you have time to move in and get acclimated. You will have assignments for your first day of class, so it's best to be completely unpacked and settled (refrigerator and pantry stocked, utilities turned on, wireless network installed, etc.). Be aware that many landlords align their lease start dates with Indiana University-Bloomington’s undergraduate fall semester start date, at least a week laterthan the first day of law school orientation. Make sure you have proper living accommodations lined up for mandatory orientation and the first day of law school classes!
If you are an international student, the IU Office of International Students Services (OIS) will contact you about their required orientation course. Visit the OIS website for international student orientation details. International students must attend complete this orientation as well as Law School orientation.
