IP Clinic helps growing Indiana businesses
Students in the Intellectual Property Law Clinic offer IP counseling services to Indiana entrepreneurs. The clinic is under the supervision of Prof. Norman Hedges in the school's Center for Intellectual Property Research, and it is certified for both patents and trademarks under the US Patent and Trademark Office Law School Clinic Certification Pilot Project.
A related service, PatentConnect, matches volunteer patent attorneys with Indiana inventors who need pro bono services. The Center for IP Research also administers the project.
Since 2015, PatentConnect has matched more than 40 attorneys with clients. The clinic has filed more than 40 patent or trademark applications — more than twice as many as a typical IP clinic — and serves over 125 clients. Students who participate in the clinic gain valuable experience and academic credit as they help protect entrepreneurs’ intellectual property.
