Lecture by Wrongly Convicted Defendant
Randy Steidl served 17 years in an Illinois prison, 12 on death row, for a crime he did not commit. Now he is part of Witness to Innocence, an organization that provides advocacy for others in similar situations. He will deliver a lecture on his story and his organization's work. Pro Bono Reporting for Graduation Recognition
Attention graduating 3Ls: The Access to Justice Program will e-mail one final survey on Sunday, April 17. This will be your last opportunity to report your pro bono hours for recognition at graduation. All hours must be reported by Saturday, April 23 at 11:59 p.m. Any pro bono hours completed during the 2010-2011 academic year that have not yet been reported may be reported at this time. Questions? International Peer Group Assistants Needed
The Office of International Programs and Graduate Legal Studies is seeking up to 10 rising 2Ls and 3Ls to serve as international peer group assistants (IPGAs) for 2011-2012. IPGAs are responsible for a small cohort of incoming international students in the LLM and doctoral programs with the goal of better integrating them into the social life of the law school. Pay is low ($500 per semester), but rewards are priceless. We are also seeking 2 and 3Ls to volunteer to be in contact with new international students one-on-one before they arrive and in the first few weeks of the semester with no long-term commitment. If interested in either position, please submit a resume and statement of interest, including relevant international or cross-cultural experience, foreign language skills, suggestions for social activities that integrate JD and graduate students, and any other relevant information by Friday, April 15 to Lesley Davis, Assistant Dean for International Programs in person (room 220) or via e-mail at leedavis@indiana.edu.
ISBA Solo and Small Firm Conference Scholarships
The Indiana State Bar Association General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section is working with OCPD to promote the annual Solo and Small Firm Conference. This year the law school has scholarships available to send students to the conference on June 2-4 at the French Lick Hotel and Conference Center. Details are available in OCPD.
Admissions Summer Assistant
The Admissions Office seeks to hire a first- or second-year law student to work as an admissions assistant. This person will help guide members of the class of 2014 through the process of moving to Bloomington, settling in, and preparing to begin class in either July or August. Duties will primarily involve calling and e-mailing students to answer questions and provide encouragement. Hours are flexible. The position will be available on a part-time basis ($10/hr). Approximately 50-60 hours will be required during the summer until the beginning of fall classes. Depending on summer schedules (legal internships, study abroad, etc.), more than one student may be hired to share the duties. Please submit a resume and letter of interest to Director of Recruitment Dani Weatherford before April 20.
Expert on Nuclear Strategy to Visit IU
Sir Lawrence Freedman, one of the world's foremost experts on nuclear strategy, will visit the university on Thursday, April 14. The title of his talk is "Are we stuck in the nuclear age? Future Prospects for Deterrence and Disarmament." Currently Professor of War Studies and Vice-Principal, King's College, London, Lawrence served as foreign policy adviser to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and is a member of the official inquiry into the Iraq war and Britain. School of Informatics and Computing Colloquium Series
Greg Hampikian, Boise State University Department of Biological Sciences, will lecture on "Stay of Execution: Forensic Bioinformatics and the Innocence Movement." Hampikian is a geneticist and international expert in forensic DNA. He is also the co-author of Exit to Freedom, with Calvin Johnson. The book tells Johnson's miraculous story of being freed from prison by DNA evidence after 17 years behind bars. Friday, April 15, 3:00, Lindley Hall room 102.

Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website.
