This Week in the Law School
Come honor some of our school's finest instructors today at noon for the annual Teaching Awards ceremony. It is a nice way to show your professors how much they mean to you. We again remind you to update your Examplify software and attend any one of the numerous ExamSoft help sessions our IT department will host throughout the week.
Please – we're begging you – take a few minutes to fill out your LSSSE survey. We're not even at 40 percent participation yet, and we'd love to be at 75 percent. We know it's a pain, but your answers truly help us know what we're doing well and where we can improve.
Oh, and remember: Wednesday is IU Day, so if you want to, go ahead and wear an IU shirt with your jeans.
Barring any unforeseen events, this is the final ILA of the semester. Congratulations to the class of 2018! Best of luck on the bar. 1L and 2Ls, we'll see you back in August. Have a great summer!

ExamSoft Sessions
As you of course read in RandySparks' email last week, there is a new version of Examplify. The latest version fixes problems with spell check and word count. Make sure you have it and that you've taken the current mock exam. As always, there will be many ExamSoft help sessions should you require assistance or have questions. These sessions will take place at different times and locations throughout the week. See below for details. Room 120 (9:50 a.m.); Room 125 (Noon and 12:30 p.m.).
Teaching Awards
Come recognize and celebrate faculty excellence in the classroom. The Teaching Awards are an annual event recognizing the best of the best. Five awards will be presented: three Trustees Teaching Awards, an Adjunct Teaching Award, and the Leon H. Wallace Teaching Award. The Wallace Teaching Award is the highest teaching honor that we can bestow upon our faculty.
The faculty award-winners are selected through the combined efforts of a student committee and the Dean. The student committee reviews class evaluations and elicits feedback from their peers to help them identify, and then nominate, the faculty they believe to reflect excellent and meritorious teaching. Please come and celebrate our faculty and their excellence in teaching. Lunch will be provided. Room 124, noon.
The Power of Active Listening and Other Techniques for Enhancing Client Communication
Please join the Protective Order Project for its annual CLE. Professors Amy Pickard and Frank DiSilvestro will present on how legal practitioners and other professionals can utilize specific active listening skills and adult literacy approaches to improve their own performance and productivity in serving their clients. This topic is terrific for all attorneys, students, and those who work with survivors of sexual abuse, relationship violence, and other trauma. Lunch will be provided. Moot Court Room, noon.
Cost Effective Research on LexisNexis
This quick session will explain how Lexis is billed in the firms and arm you with the skills and knowledge you need to avoid unnecessary charges. Room 216, 12:15 p.m.
Tuesday, April 17
ExamSoft Sessions
Room 125, 9:15 a.m., noon, and 12:30 p.m.
CLS End-of-Year Celebration
As our last meeting of the semester, the Christian Legal Society will be celebrating the 3Ls and sending them off with our prayers; please join us for fellowship and a brief prayer. We will have snacks and drinks; please bring one to share if you'd like. All are welcome to join, even if you've never been. If you cannot make it, please be assured of our prayers for all 3Ls as they leave law school and begin a new adventure. Thanks be to God. Room 222, noon.
1L/2L Strategies for Summer Success
Learn how to make the most of your summer legal experience, how to make yourself stand out, and how to avoid common pitfalls. This program can be especially helpful for 2Ls who have positions that may result in a post-graduate offer of employment at the end of the summer. Please plan to join our special guests Lisa Watson from Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP; Stacee Williams, '96, from Student Legal Services; and Rob Foos from Lewis & Wagner as they provide you the best advice from their years of supervising hundreds of summer law clerks. Lunch provided for those who RSVP 24 hours prior to the event. Moot Court Room, noon.
Wellness Activities: Chill & Craft Hour
Looking for a way to tap into your creative side, unwind a bit, and give to charity? Career Services and Student Affairs are delighted to provide you the opportunity to give back through charity craft work. We'll meet every other week until exams begin. But students, faculty, and staff are always welcome to join us at the CSO any time. CSO, 12:30 p.m.
Patent Trial Practice: Mock Trial
Join Prof. DonKnebel's Patent Trial Practice class as students conduct their mock patent trial. An Indiana judge will preside over the case. A jury of six will decide the final verdict. All attendees have the chance to serve on the jury. Dinner will be provided. Moot Court Room, 2 to 8 p.m.

Come visit our table to learn more about the 3L Campaign. Students who wear their commemorative "Class of 2018" t-shirt (free with a pledge), or make a pledge that day, will receive a free donut from Square Donuts (in addition to swag, such as fidget spinners, fridge stickers, pens, flashlights, and more). 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

SLA Seeks Board Members
The Society for Law and the Arts is looking for executive board members for 2018-19. If you wish to run for a board seat please email maurersla@gmail.com indicating your interest. Available positions are president and treasurer. Please reach out to the above email address with any questions or for more details about the positions.
Update Examplify
There's a new version of Examplify that fixes the spell check and word count problems. That should be all the motivation you need to update Examplify now and watch your email for detailed instructions and a slate of help sessions later in the week.
3L Pledge Campaign Committee Tabling
The 3L Pledge Campaign Committee will be tabling from 11:45-1:15 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until graduation. The campaign is an annual event that encourages members of the 3L class to give back to the Law School. The committee will be collecting pledges (payable in July 2019) between now and graduation. This year the committee has decided to raise money for the Law School Fund for Excellence, one of the most important funds at the school because it provides the dean with the ability and flexibility needed to support students in various ways. Everyone who pledges will receive a t-shirt to commemorate their pledge and time at Maurer. We are striving for 100 percent participation. Stop by the table or fill out the form through the "quizzes" tab on the "2018 JD Class" Canvas page.
The Inmate Legal Assistance Project Book Drive
Midwest Pages to Prisoners is a local organization supplying inmates in 10 states with reading material for their education and enjoyment. ILAP will be tabling during lunch over the next few weeks and will also supply drop-off locations in the CSO and Jerome Hall Law Library.
Any genres are welcome, but fiction, life skills, technical and vocational, criminal law books, and test prep books are particularly appreciated. Don't have any books to give away? We are also in need of materials such as clear packing tape, blank white paper, and pens. We also accept cash donations. We look forward to your donations to this great cause.
LSSSE Survey Reminder
Your voice counts! Please take the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE). Your responses help us identify what is going well and what could benefit from more attention or a different approach. Last year, we had a record high response rate! This year, we hope that more than 75 percent of you will respond. The survey is conducted by an independent research center; your responses and comments are anonymous to the Law School.
