This Week in the Law School
Halloween is rapidly approaching, and while it is supposed to be the scariest week of the year, we all know that the election isn't until Nov. 8. ELS is having a fun event on Wednesday at Cardinal Spirits, OWLS is hosting its annual trick-or-treating event Thursday, and SBA is having a Halloween party Saturday at the Bluebird. It's enough to put a smile on any ornithologist's face. Put on your finest business attire for the Class of 2017 composite photos Wednesday through Friday. Remember: These are the photos that will hang on the walls here for decades and possibly be used by the media should you ever be charged or convicted of a major crime. They also make wonderful Tinder profile pics. Let's swipe right into this week's events, shall we?

Composite Photos
Students who are graduating in the 2017 calendar year and wish to be included in the graduation composite should sign up for a photo sitting. Openings are available today through Friday. Please follow these steps:

- 2. Enter "Maurer" into the search box
- 3. Click on Indiana University at Bloomington Maurer School of Law Composite
- 4. Pre-register your information
- 5. Click "Schedule Your Portrait Session" and sign-up for whatever date & time works best for your schedule
Please triple-check your name and date and time. How you enter your name into the site will be how your name appears on the composite, so be sure to enter the name you prefer. The dress code is business professional. Room 340, various times.
1L Workshop: Cover Letters
1Ls, you are invited to attend this workshop to receive tips and advice for perfecting your cover letters. Moot Court Room, noon.
Law Library Workshop: How to Research Case Law
You're invited to attend the second of three workshops on conducting effective legal research. This session will cover case law research on Lexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg. Come learn all the tips and tricks for finding cases using these databases. Please feel free to bring your lunch. Register in advance to attend. Room 206E (Jerome Hall Law Library), noon.
ELS Autumn Reception at Cardinal Spirits
The Environmental Law Society invites you to an autumn reception at local craft distillery Cardinal Spirits. Indiana Law students, faculty, and significant others are invited to enjoy an evening together with good food, good drinks, and great company. The evening will include a tour of the Cardinal distillery, catering provided by La Poblana Taco Truck (each ticket gets you two tacos; additional food available for purchase), and a selection of Cardinal's signature autumn cocktails available for purchase. Tickets are $10 each if purchased in advance and $15 at the door. The event may sell out, so get your tickets early. ELS will be selling tickets in the Law School lobby every day during lunch. Prof. Kevin Brown delivered a paper on October 14th entitled "The Ultimate Success of School Desegregation" at the conference, In Honor of Fred Gray: Making Civil Rights Law from Rosa Parks to the 21st Century, at Case Western Reserve Law School in Cleveland. The conference was in honor of one of Case Western's must illustrious alums, Fred Gray. Among his clients were Rosa Parks and Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.

Stewart Fellows Program Applications Now Open
The Stewart Fellows Overseas Externship Program, the Law School's fellowship in support of academic externships which send students abroad during the summer, announces two upcoming application periods: October 17-28, 2016, for placements in Argentina, Brazil, Thailand and Vietnam; and January 9-27, 2017, for placements in China, India, Japan and South Korea. Become a MELSA Leader
Are you interested in transnational law, international finance law, international trade law, international human rights law, conflicts law, environmental and natural resources law, national security law, or U.S. intelligence law? The Middle East is a nexus of diverse fields of legal study and central to the United States' foreign policy interests. The Middle Eastern Law Students Association (MELSA) is looking for students to interested in leadership positions on the executive board. Membership is open to students of all backgrounds. The purpose of MELSA is to increase student and faculty awareness of issues pertaining to the Middle East and their impact on the legal profession. ABA Forum on Communication Law Conference Scholarships Available
The ABA Forum on Communications Law's annual conference for media lawyers takes place February 9-11, 2017 in New Orleans. The conference provides two opportunities for law students to attend and participate. First, there is a media law workshop for new lawyers and law students. Second, the forum provides one to three scholarship opportunities that cover the costs of attending the conference. To increase the diversity of the media bar, one scholarship is dedicated to a student who is a member of a diverse law student organization. The other scholarship(s) are open to all law students. An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.
ILA Submissions
Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) by emailing (lawrooms@indiana.edu). If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 855-0156). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
