This Week in the Law School
SELS, SLA, and the IP Association will present the general counsel for Secretly Label Group on Tuesday. The record label is home to Bon Iver, Foxygen, and Jens Lekman. Bootleg the talk, run it through Auto-Tune, put it on a mixtape, and watch your music career take flight. If you've attended a Secretly Canadian concert, you already know beards are highly encouraged. While the company may be called secret, the location of this talk isn't: Room 120.

This year, two lucky 2Ls will earn the coveted title of Mr. and Mrs. Maurer, something Mickey, JD'67, and wife Janie were able to accomplish decades earlier.

Christian Legal Society Weekly Bible Study
All students who are interested in learning more about the Christian Legal Society or interested in engaging in Bible study are welcome. These sessions will take place every Monday through April 27. Room 120, noon.

Q&A with General Counsel for Independent Record Label Group
Grant Manship is general counsel the for Secretly Label Group in Bloomington, a family of record labels which have been home to artists such as Bon Iver, Foxygen, Jens Lekman, and Tig Notaro. Mr. Manship handles royalty deals, licensing, and other legal issues for Secretly Label Group. He will answer questions about general counsel jobs as well as finding a career in entertainment law. Hosted by the Society for Law & the Arts, Sports and Entertainment Law Society, and the IP Association. Lunch will be provided. Room 120, noon.
Law and Drama Society Call-out Meeting

Federalist Society Speaker Series: In Defense of Private Civic Engagement — Why the Assault on 'Dark Money' Threatens Free Speech and How to Stop the Assault
Nick Dranias is president and executive director within the Office of the President of Compact for America Educational Foundation, Inc., and previously served as general counsel and constitutional policy director for the Goldwater Institute. As part of the Wealth of States project, Mr. Dranias focuses on how the right to private civic engagement — the right to participate in politics confidentially as an individual or in association with others — is under assault as the product of "dark money." Room 125, noon.

CACR Security Seminar Series: Reasoning Cryptographically About Knowledge
The Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research welcomes Cornell University Associate Professor Rafael Pass. Cryptographic notions of knowledge consider the knowledge obtained, or possessed, by computationally-bounded agents under adversarial conditions. In this talk, we will survey some recent cryptographically-inspired approaches for reasoning about agents' knowledge in the context of mechanism design, coding theory, voting theory, and weather forecasting. Faculty News
Congratulations to Prof. Dan Cole, whose work "Digging Deeper into Hardin's Pasture: The Complex Institutional Structure of the 'Tragedy of the Commons'" (with Graham Epstein and Michael McGinnis) has been named to the 2015 Elinor Ostrom Prize Shortlist. Prof. Cole is one of five finalists competing for a £1000 prize, awarded annually to the best full-length article published in the Journal of Institutional Economics in the preceding calendar year. The award, which will be presented in September, is funded by the Foundation for European Economic Development.
On Friday, January 30th, Prof. Kevin Brown presented talks at two different panels at the Twentieth Annual Mid-Atlantic People of Color Legal Scholarship Conference hosted by the West Virginia University College of Law in Morgantown, West Virginia. He delivered remarks entitled, "LSAC Data Reveals that Black/White Multiracials Outscore All Blacks on LSAT by Wide Margins" at the panel "Do We Believe the Children are Our Future?" Professor Brown also delivered remarks entitled, "The Rise and Fall of the One-Drop Rule: How the Importance of Color Came to Eclipse Race at the panel "Color Matters: Skin Tone Bias and the Myth of a Postracial America."

Rapheal M. Prevot Jr. Barrister's Ball
The 2015 Rapheal M. Prevot Jr. Barrister's Ball will be at the Indiana Memorial Union's Alumni Hall on Friday, February 13 from 7 p.m. to midnight. The theme this year is "Midnight in Paris." Get your passports ready for a midnight trip to Paris. You'll start the evening with hors d'oeuvres and soft jazz, followed by dinner, and dancing the night away to music from the Midwest's hottest DJ, Deejay B-Rad. Passports can be bought online and during the lunch hour in the Law School lobby. General admission is $50 and includes food at the cocktail hour, dinner, dessert, a photo, and entertainment. A cash bar will be available. The last day to purchase passports is February 6. Attendees can vote for their peers to receive the coveted titles of Mr. and Ms. Maurer and nominate a professor or faculty member for the Outstanding Faculty Award. Voting ends Wednesday. Everyone is invited to attend. Black tie optional.
CJAM Mediation Training in February and March
The Community Justice and Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 48-hour training program for those interested in learning about conflict resolution, mediation, and restorative justice. Participants will enhance their interpersonal skills in communication and listening, problem solving, and negotiation, and they will increase their understanding of restorative justice philosophy and methods, the sources of conflict, and the processes leading to constructive conflict resolution. The training will benefit any community member concerned with managing conflict and its resolution. The training provides the background and skills necessary to work as a community mediator and restorative justice practitioner and qualifies participants to volunteer in CJAM's programs. The Winter/Spring 2015 training will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., February 7 & 8, 21 & 22, and March 7 & 8 at the Law School in Room 214. The training will be led by senior mediators and restorative justice practitioners. Tuition is $300, early bird registration is $250 if received and paid by January 23. Scholarships are available. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.

Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website.
